Guys,

I’m in trouble with clearance on with my Jimny that I put the 1.9 XUD N/A engine and the LDV gearbox. The problem I am having is that I can’t seem to get clearance for the steering. The sump is about 1 inch short of clearing.

All suggestions welcome. It’s mad to come this far in the build and have this problem I can’t get over. Is there an alternative steering unit I could use?

make up a bar with a bend in it? looks like you've already cut the sump about as much as you can...........

Sump cut right back, It can't go any further... Worried about the MOT when using a bar with a bend in it.

Has anyone ever changed the steering box and idler combo that will bring the height of the linkages down a bit and get you some clearance?

If so, what should i be looking for?

If the steering bars are clearly deliberated shaped to clear the sump and are properly attached with track rod ends in good condition then it shouldn't be an MOT fail. MOTs are about safety rather than aesthetics - if it all works then you should be fine.

If in doubt ask an MOT tester.

Is this an easier fix?

What are you going to do about the panhard rod? Or are you not going to have any up travel in the suspension.

put a bend in it Smile ive never had a problem with Z link steering or cranked radius arms..etc.. for MOTs but my man is friendly (and has a lifted play day jeep)

Can you lift the engine and gearbox an inch and if you need make a bigger transmission tunnel...or body lift to suit?
or just lift the engine mounts leaving the gearbox mounts in the same place(with shims for angle)?
or convert your panhard/ steering arms to rose joints and run them under the knuckles on your hubs (kind of a low steer kit....)?
or drop steering box in chassis and make a modified steering column, and make a matching chassis mount for panhard?
