Any suggestions for removing locking wheel studs without damaging the alloy wheels?
The key has bust - tried several of the sockets for removing stuck nuts but no joy

Pop into a tyre dealer they usually have a gadget for removing them, or see if a motor factors stock anything. What i'm thinking of is a socket that you wind on the wrong way as such, which then undoes the wheel nut.Saw a technician spend 1.5 hours getting a lock nut off a L320 RR the other day it's just depends how tight they are on.

^ wot he said
IMO locking wheel nuts are nothing but a pain for the owner and no deterrent for a thief.
Of course the lack of can cause as much difficulty. I swapped mine for normal nuts as soon as I got the car and every service I get a call "where's your wheel nut key"
The old Difflock shop used to sell a product called Nutbuster sockets and they were brilliant.

try and tighten all the others up as tight as poss before trying t remove the lock nut . this works best when some muppet hasn`t used a gun on them .
if tou dont get any joy that way , get your self a set of urwin bolt extractors , the left hand spiral in them work a treat

When I lost my key I took my vehicle to a tyre fitter.
He smacked a locking wheel nut extractor on each locking nut, then a big extrension bar and undid them. It took longer to remove each nut from the tool afterwards than to remove each locking nut from the wheel.
He charged me a fiver.

tried the Irwin type this - problem is there isn't enough lip to bite.
Ended up having to order a new one from Citroen - £60! And a load of paper work

I know you have solved your own problem, but just in case anyone else reads this thread looking for a solution.. I have removed locking wheel bolts with no key before by welding a nut to the top of it, then simply undoing it using the new nut.. just another idea

There is a lock wheel nut remover I have a few sets somewhere ,years back I had the exact problem, they work by threading over the locking nut anti-clockwise whilest tightening against the nut it undoes it . Very handy indeed would be a good choice if anyone else has that issue .

I've just used old sockets 1mm smaller and a big fking hammer. As above, takes longer to get the socket out off the nut.

There is a nack to it place a bolt inside the socket first so you can vice it out takes minutes to do

Or just hold the socket in the top of a vice a drop an m10 bolt through the socket and clowt that. None of it is rocket science.

I have successfully used the "weld a socket on it" method, but it does depend on the design of the wheel.
