Hi.
I have recently acquired a 1997 4L Cherokee XJ.
I have pink fluid leaking on the front drivers side.
It isn't power steering fluid or auto transmission fluid as I have splashed the contents of the dip sticks of those two sources on the shiny painted garage floor and they look very different.
The fluid I'm loosing is very watery not oily in consistency. However taking the rad cap off and splashing some of that on the floor reveals it certainly isn't coolant. My coolant is a mucky rust colour.
This fluid looks clean enough to be brand new and straight out of a bottle. It looks to be leaking from the radiator, but isn't coolant. Only leaks when vehicle is stood for days. (non showing after only two days) Once cleaned up might not be added to until next run. It is only a thimble full at a time.
I'm perplexed.

A bright colour die is often added to the A/C gas to help trace small leaks.
As you have only recently acquired the vehicle, this may have been done by the previous owner in an effort to locate a difficult-to-find leak.
Richard.

I never considered an AC leak as I assumed that would be gas not liquid.
I have looked a bit deeper (removed grill) and it does look to drip down from the radiator, but like I said it isn't mucky enough to be coolant. I did however notice that the AC lines appear to go into the main radiator so what you say may well be true.

Im pretty sure the gearbox cooler is built into the main radiator, there is 2 pipes on the drivers side at the back end of the radiator, 1 is a nut around the pipe and the 2nd is a push on fitting, which is an absolute swine to get off.
The aircon radiator sits in front of the main radiator.
I would check the pipes going to both these, use some tissue paper and you might be able to see if it picks up any of the same coloured fluid.

Thanks guys.
I never found the leak. But it has stopped, so what ever was leaking has run out of fluid now!
I do have the smallest of leaks from the autobox coolant pipe work into the rad, but that is defiantly not the same stuff.
