What kind of **** is this! Admittedly my car goes off road every day.
first it failed on emissions,
then parking brake
front breaking uneaven.
So I stripped and checked, truthfully the offside drum had a lot to be desired, new pads on both sides and new drum fitted
so for your cash in a dash I will give you 70 quid to sort out the fronts, (clean the cylinders)
So rear brakes fine on pre mot number3! (It passed its first) I am down to... fuel cap insufficient Seal and get this the ******* handbrake cable snapped on the re test!
life is ****! I have a stupid curtesy car full of red bull tins and crap.
I feel like my **** is on the road when I drive it and the cranleigh bmw x5 comunity are really taking the **** because I don't have a gurder stuck on the front (rich people's wives
know of the clauses in the highway code, sub section "**** on the poor" "it is ok to drive head on at any lower tax bracket vehicle, providing (sect1a) you wave at the on coming traffic, or (sect 1a/b) you are prepared to cry and play the victim after the impact, coupled with section 1a/c, in which you can claim that your child tarquin/ tabitha, was destined for better things, but you have curtailed this by violating section 8 (I have ritch friends see you in court!)
I want my ******* car back! It passed emissions, you broke the brake cable whats the **** about the fuel cap!

It has to be able to pass all items of the test in one go at the same time.
In my experience, when the second test brings up fail points that didn't occur in the first test it is just as likely to be because the first tester was too lenient as it is that the second tester was too strict. It could of course be that something wore out or stopped working between tests.
I know its frustrating, I once had a car that failed on a front coil spring initially as it was broken, then on the re-test, they found a broken rear coil spring and didn't like the condition of one of the seat belts which I know for fact hadn't changed since the first test.

You should be allowed a partial (and free or reduced fee) test within the following 10 days that only includes the fail items! It sounds like the garage is giving you the run around....all the details are here:

Hi,
My tester pointed to a car that he had just failed for the second time. Said he had failed it a couple of weeks previously.
The owner had obviously taken it for another test elsewhere, but decided it was better to get the welding needed for the first test fixed.
When my tester looked at it for the retest, he found a lot of chalk marks left by the second tester (which hadn't been fixed), so he failed it again.

My MOT tester says since it's computerised he can see its recent history so he knows what advisories were issued, what it's failed on in previous years, and if another garage has failed it in the past month...

Yes, they can see the history and their not stupid.
The 10 day reduced or free retest applies to a partial retest and depends on what it failed on and whether its taken away from the testing garage for repair.
In practice most garages are reasonable regarding whether or what they charge you for a retest.

Are you running a body lift? Maybe it's not the cap itself but the filler hose has something bad going on - and filler cap seal was the closest description they had to put on the sheet.
If I can I try and talk to the tester and get them to point out what they've got an issue with - normally I've found they are right and have spotted something I've missed. I think they're switched on enough to figure out if you're getting a hobby car MOT'd they probably aren't going to get any repair work out of you.
Out of interest where did the hand brake cable snap?

There are some exceptions, but most testers pass the common sense test.
It is definitely worth watching the test so you can discuss any issues with the tester.
Is is also worth always using the same garage so they learn to trust you.

If my MOT tester saw something stupid or small like a loose connection on a light he would move on to a different part, let me fix it and then come back to it after

Actually it was the rubber ring on the fuel cap, its starting to perish,
I actually did leave the whole failed mot plus recommendations with the car at the time of the test so he could see I had done my bit.
I am mostly miffed with having to drive a 1.2l vauxhall corsa with an auto box!
and the man has a fuelcap fetishist I am not the only one he failed.

Hi,
I assumed you had fitted a temporary "one size fits all" filler cap, that just pushed in. Filler caps must be secure ... or something like that.
OT ... but a lady member of my staff (at DVLC) asked to use my phone to call her garage. This would have been mid-1970s. I heard her tell them that he petrol tank had collapsed, and this wasn't what she expected from a brand new car. The garage said something, to which she replied "No, I haven't fitted a locking filler cap!"
When she hung up, she looked at me, and said "The ******** knew what I'd done!" Er.... I hope that is censored.
