Hi all,

I have a couple of questions...

I am looking to buy a galvanised chassis for my 300tdi 90 next month, can anyone advise who/where to buy from?
at the moment I am looking at Richard Chassis.

This is for my 'pride and joy' defender which I intend to invest in and keep for the foreseeable future - any, hints, tips or advice on what to buy/replace during a Galv. chassis conversion would be greatly appreciated.

I will be replacing the clutch, cambelt and fitting copper brake likes as a matter of course - what else would be worth doing?

Secondly - A friend is advising me to use a discovery transfer box for lower engine RPM at road speed, I do already have a decent discovery transfer box in the garage and transfer box on my defender requires new output bearings and seals (min) question is... do I swap it during chassis change? and is there more to it than just bolting it on?

Look forward to hearing from you all!

I would suggest etch priming the new chassis then a couple of coats of good quality primer and chassis paint. New chassis will then outlive you Laughing

If for no other reason than theft prevention. If it looks like a normal chassis then who's to know.

Richard's chassis all the way. The disco transfer box conversion will reduce noise/improve consumption/increase top speed but beware of doing it along with bigger tyres especially on a 300tdi.

I;d put in poly bushes all round, all new rubber, new brake lines etc. I'd also make up an 'earth' loom to run along the chassis from the battery and run all earth wires from that to engine/gearbox/lights etc. It will last longer than to the chassis, give you better connections and make trouble shooting easier in the future. Invest in 35mm or 55mm cross section welding cable with soldered and crimped connections. Not the cheap way but will last much longer.

I'm sure that the Richard's chassis is first class - I bought a Marsland one for my 300 TDi and all is well.
