I have bought a 2002 front era and the glow start is not working! I have bought a new relay and that hasn't fixed it.

The light on the dash doesn't work nor am I getting any readings from a multimeter. I have only have basic skills and knowledge and also have power at the fuses.

What I would like to do is install some manual glow start mechanism but I don't know what i need to buy so need help please.

I have also put a brand new battery on and still struggles a tad and I'm worried it won't start when freezes again.

Any input much appreciated

there two ways to do it .
the easy way is to run a live from the battery to a switch and then to the glow plugs . switch it on and count to ten then start it , the thing is to remember to turn it off again . or you can use a push button type switch .

the second part involves the same but with a relay wired in .that needs to be done right or it`ll never work .
i`m sure some one with more knowlage of electrickery will be along soon to help further .

I can do it the easy way but I wanted to go the more professional route and run a relay with push button.
But just wouldn't know where to start......can't find any kits on ebay either

VERY simplified;

the skinny lines are low amp side so skinny wires, SPAM lines are high amp side of relay so use SPAM wires... I am NOT an auto electrician so I don't know correct wire size, fuse rating (both circuits should be fused) or what relay to use! someone on here might......I just wanted to make an effort before I said- Why don't you solve the issue and get the system the factory fitted working Question

Get hold of an old starter soleniod from a something like a mini, then wire this to a pretty push button switch in the car. It'll handle any load you'll likely to throw at it.

On the back of the solenoid one big wire directly to the battery, one to the glows, and then the two smaller ones to the switch, earth through the body and job done. Press the button for 30 seconds to heat the plugs then start.

I did this for a mate when he put a 2.8 frontera engine in a mk1 trooper and it worked a treat.

are you sure it doesn't just need a set of glow plugs? the whole glow plug circuits are controlled by the resistance of the plugs (which changes due to heat) and if theyre fooked then you will end up buying anyway!
if you do go down the manual route be careful, you can burn out glow plugs by heating for too long, and make sure theyre actually 12v before you do this (Daihatsu are 7 or 7.5v for example).
I was going to suggest an old winch solenoid...
I do stand by my "fix it" point of view; the money for a push button/ solenoid/ wires/ inline fuses/ connectors ..ect..could be more than paying someone to sort it... Confused

Check the resistance of the glow plugs, as Mike says.
