For some reason the Motorola TK30 handsfree kit in my car has gone haywire possibly due to a water leak, possibly not. I've had one before and it was OK but not brilliant but now I need to change it I'm looking at options.

Should I look for a combined radio/bluetooth/ipod controller to replace the standard radio (LR now fit Alpine units as standard) or something like a Parrot?

Edited to add,

I use my ipod classic as much as the radio so controls better than having to scroll alphabetically would be good Cool

I have a clarion nx400 in the pickup. Works fine with usb memory sticks, iPhones etc for playing music. Won't play music off my s5. The blue tooth hands free works with pretty much anything but iPhones.

I've had a parrot 3100s in loads of vehicles and works with any phone I've tried to connect including Nokias, samsungs and iPhones.

My wife has the 3200 with all the mp3 etc. Worked fine for mp3 with everything up to the iPhone 5. With a genuine apple adaptor it worked until she installed ios8. Still works with the blue tooth. Not looked yo see if there's and update?

The problem I have is the clarion is radio sat navigation dvd mp3 and phone and it's too expensive a lump to replace just because the hands free is iffy. The parrot are by far the best blue tooth hands free I've ever used in terms of compatability and sound quality and I would go for the 3100 and forget linking it into the mp3 side. Keep it separate then if you have problems you can change it one bit at a time

I've got an iPhone 6 so that needs to work. I'll look at those options.

Just pulled the TK30's unit out the dash and no water problems at all behind there - it's just pants!

Cheers

The absolute best one I've ever used was factory fit on an e class. You had to have a certain Nokia phone which clipped into a cradle in the armrest. You then had a roof aerial charging and full use through the cars computer. It always had signal and the sound quality was perfect. Don't think modern phones have the connections anymore Sad

Is that what you have? Does the screen not block the switches?

Got the parrot MKi9100 fitted in 3 of our fourtraks, fairly impressed by them as even in mine, with gearbox whine/muds/no soundproofing, you can be heard and hear clearly.

Have used usb with it and ipod once (iirc, dont actually own an ipod hence not regularly).

Dont seem to work particularly well with samsung c3350 solid - the phone goes very slow and doesnt keep up with what you're doing, more an issue with the phone rather than the parrot. Works well with my current Samsung s4 mini, previous Samsung ace 2 and dads nokia 6301.

Have only had one issue with the screen dieing, although the rest seemed to work. since had that replaced through warranty.

These were bought to replace the nokia wired hands free and seem to be doing the job.

I've gone and bought this one

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-kenwo...48dab_p-32115.htm

on the basis it is the cheapest single din, non screen radio with DAB, BT and rear USB for an iPod/MP3. I got a wee discount, free shipping and a free windscreen mounted antenna.

A lot more than I wanted to pay but if it does the job then I'll be happy.
