|

Hi All,
I'm struggling to insert images that I've got on my one drive account into posts. Anyone else tried and had success on this forum?
I've googled. I've managed to get a preview to work once - but it seemed weirdly intermittent - not sure if the link I was using was a temporary one created when I selected "view original" as I could only get exactly the same img link to show the image again in a preview by clicking back in the browser... copy and pasting and resubmitting the preview then failed?!
Thinking I'm going to have to upload the images I want to post to something else. Would just be nice if I could do it through one drive to save a load of hassle - as that's where everything is already uploaded.

Linking to a image hosted elsewhere draws on the bandwidth of the hosted image site, because of this many hosted image sites block links.
The other problem is that at some stage you might delete the image of change it's location on the hosted image site thus effectively deleting it from the linked post...

yeah I agree with what you are saying... but onedrive offers the option to generate an embedded image link as described below...
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/onedrive/emb...iles-website-blog
So it should work in my opinion. As an example it generates (I've removed the leading chevron so you can see)...
iframe src="https://onedrive.live.com/embed?cid=667B1DCC2FBBB627&resid=667B1DCC2FBBB627%211546&authkey=AKDJluYegw5iFBo" width="320" height="240" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
but doesn't seem to play with this forum - or at least I don't understand how to make it work. Bit of googling suggests that iframes are problematic.
I found some work arounds which suggested if I clicked the generated link and copied the address displayed in my browser that could be put in the img tag. Seems to have worked for others but I can't get it to work...

When I say worked for others - I don't know if it works on here - which is why I'm wondering if anyone else has had any luck...

A lot depend how the forum is set up - I have to say that the core on this one is so ancient we're lucky anything works
for an image tag to work it must have the full path and end in .jpg which I presume MSN is not giving you
That iframe link doesn't even work on my forum

Yeah it's all a bit suspect :S it's a shame it doesn't work out of the box because I'm enjoying onedrive - seems pretty useable other than this.
https://zqyjsq.by3301.livefilestore.com/y2pbVoG2...FLfA/DSC_0344.jpg
So I can get to that by extracting the link part of what I posted and copying it into the browser. I think click the image which comes up in the browser - which takes me a one drive page. Selecting original image at the top of the page takes me to another page with just the image... above is copied out of the browser bar... but the following doesn't do much...

For a PHPBB forum (for this is one) you need a remote image URL enclosed in the standard image tags ....
[img] [/img]
AND the image reference MUST include an image file name with a known image extension. Like so ....
[img]http://www.image-location.com/image-name.jpg[/img]
The OneDrive generated link isn't even remotely close.

so next question is can i resize it somehow in the img tag? without editing the original image?
even if i can't making a "posted" directory of resized images on onedrive wouldn't be a bad solution assuming others can now see the image

No they can't see the above image.
No you can't resize within the image tags. It displays the original image whatever size that is.

Yeah did some googling of PHPBB. I think sticking with one site with a load of copied resized pictures is still going to be a bit easier than using two.
One last try and i'm giving up. I've messed with the permissions - has a large picture appeared above after a refresh? I can now see it on a different computer that has never signed into my one drive, and also my phone browser (might eat into data allowance as its quite big).
If it does appear ... i think it loaded while i was signed into onedrive only... which is why i thought i'd got it working at a couple of points. Figure thats got something to do with the https:// rather than http:// (secure). Other than that it is an image file name path with a valid extension!

Cheers! Looks like it's working now then. I've edited the post with the big image in as I think it's slurping a lot of data across to anyone that looks at it (removed img tags). Anyone wants to test it should be able to use a post reply preview with the following link and img tags surrounding...
Code: | https://zqyjsq.by3301.livefilestore.com/y2pbVoG2cQCNc0ZIH9AWgnzmcELQoqEktZ__Dl1wTH7lEun_0sENIuae8HU20ojJH_DBfBk3GDqVUDNoG2btVUahjzj7xRI68c3s6CV5BRc6Lp-nxLvbrbuumMkbyiZt9HHsjd0SnOkTqKkcAXa61FLfA/DSC_0344.jpg |
For the benefit of others I think this works...
Log in to onedrive
Select the photo and choose share at the top of the page
Choose get a link then view only, and copy the provided link
optional: sign out of one drive ( so next steps test its publically available )
Throw the link into the address bar of a browser - should bring up a one drive interface with your image in it - if it shows more images it probably means you are still signed in
Click View Original at the top
Copy the link in the address bar into the img tags
Delete the bit at the end of the link beyond the file extension... in this case was blahblahblahablah.jpg?psid=1 which I changed to blahblahblahablah.jpg
Or...
Use Photobucket (lol)
Don't think one drive does resizing of images but I think I can handle doing that. I'd have to download and re upload to put on another sharing site anyway.
