PostPosted: Sun Dec 07, 2014 8:47 pm    Post subject: 110 Double Cab Reply with quote

I recently bought a farmers 110 double cab for a good price. I have done it up over the last few weeks, new exhaust, alloys, interior, EGR blank off kit, winch bumper etc.

Question is do a leave it standard'ish or go for Cooper STT 285's and a 2" lift kit? I want to offroad it, but dont particulary want to start splashing out cash on uprated shafts etc, but I also dont want to be stuck everywhere

Any advice?

Phil

A farmer mate has a 130 double cab now (he used to have a 4.6 V8 110).Other than changing tyres the day he had it, he just's points it off road and goes.285/75 section tyres will want new wheels as your rims aren't wide enough,(+ the lift kit and all the stuff to go with it)you have a winch if you haven't got a good selection of ground anchors why not invest in them first.

Mr Birt, welcome back to the oval side Cool

Nice looking truck indeed.

A set of 4x modulars will cost you £120 or so and to be honest Id run it as is for a few events and see how you go especially if you have a ground anchor.

I wouldn't change the suspension straight away unless your suspension is tired and the same with the tyres, unless they are ready to be changed.

Uprated axles internals are not needed until you are fitting lockers of some sort and if the cash is burning a hole in your pocket I'd be warming up that TD5 engine with a snorkel, nice filter, good exhaust and a seriously remapped ECU. You will get much more enjoyment from performance - I had 200BHP and 330ftlbs from my TD5 (from 120bhp/220?ftlbs) and what a difference in controllability off road? Lovely.

Of course, you will need to fit an 'ohshitometer' to explain why the poo is coming out your collar Laughing

Here's the dyno graph from Dastek (as done by Mr Big Buggy aka Redline Mike)

The figures are not what I remember but I'd fitted a Griffin sports exhaust, K+N filter and Safari Snorkel with an allisport intercooler.

Total cost was ~£1400 back then but it utterly transformed the car. Driveability from naff all revs was smooth and you could easily control the revs to maximise traction - you really had tremendous feel at the loud pedal.

I would be looking at the remap and exhaust first (even just going straight through) and the intercooler later but it's the full combo that makes the big difference.

The work was done when it was my yr 2000 90 csw which became the buggy. Once it was the buggy I removed the intercooler and changed the ecu for a n NNN one from Mastaz which was less powerful but more reliable with less wiring. The original was not flash programmable and needed piggy back ecus which I still have as it happens (and don't need)

Thanks for input guys.

Richard - The exhaust was rotten when I got the truck, so after looking at the tinterweb the general feeling the stock exhaust wasn't that restrictive, and folk that had moved to sports exhaust didn't really feel a power difference, so I went stock as it was dead cheap and got rid of front box.

I'm interested in the ECU upgrade, the motor has plenty of power with the EGR removed, but feels rough and doesn't like to rev hard (not poor running just factory settings), but there are sooo many people offering upgrades it feels like a minefield. I would rather post a chip away for a few days for an ECU remap, but open to suggestions / comments

Tyres - It is running nearly new muds 235 75 16, which it came on, so I could upgrade and sell them on, but you may have a point, lets see how it preforms first?

Ground Anchor - Yep got one of these, its called Gav in his Jimny!

I'm used to the go anyway ability of pigzuki, however thats away to a new home, so the 110 will be pushed into action.

I may have to fit new (standard HD) springs on the front, before I venture to far.

Snorkel - A friend is selling me a second hand safari snorkel

Thanks for input so far

Here is another pic, just after purchase of the kids trying it out for size, 2 big LR fans there

I got another ECU from a guy on eBay called Mastaz who's brother runs KD Landrovers. It was a +40% job and although pricey it gave me a spare ecu.

I'm heading to ABZ tomorrow and could bring you my piggy back ecu to try (no guarantee though)
