hi, haven't bean on here for awhile, but was wondering if anyone can help me?
I have just purchased a alternator to replace the tired old one on my 91 defender, however, the old alternator isn't marked up with any symbols so im not sure which wires to connect to what
just guessing and doing a like for like, but I don't like guessing and blowing the new one or worse!
does anyone know?

Big wire to battery = B+
Charge light (small wire) = D
And if you have a tach that needs a feed = W
Fit the exciter wire to the wl terminal
2 wires to the big terminal
You fit the two thick brown wires together on to one terminal and the smaller one (battery warning light is separate)

cant work out what I've done wrong.
fitted a new alternator, tested it and it shows its charging from the alternator to the battery, volt meter on dash is sowing 13.5v, but the "no charge" warning light is OUT when I turn on the ignition ( bulb is ok )
got the little wire ( which am told is the warning light ) on to the D+ ( is that right? )
big hefty cable onto the B+ and the taco wire onto the W
it doesn't come one when its running ( which it shouldn't I know ) but it doesn't come on when the engine isn't running ( which it should )
please help!!

Run a wire from the D+ (IND) through a light bulb to the positive terminal on the battery - it should light up and go out when the engine is started - if it doesn't then there is a fault on the alternator, if it does you have a fault on the vehicle wiring

it doesn't so looks like I've a fault on the alternator, I know its charging so that will have to do for now, till funds allow for a recon, its only the warning light
thanks for your help, much appreciated
