Hi,

According to my SWMBO who claims to know about these things....

Scotland and France are historic chums, and England a Spain have/had similar relationships.

It wouldn't surprise me if France claimed Scotland, the same as they were going to divvy up the Channel Islands.

Actually, I'm waiting for someone to announce their hidden agenda. If parts of Wales are still untamed, Scotland will become a pioneer country. How far is John o'Groats from the Rift Valley?

To be honest England gets on better with the Portuguese than the Spanish...

...but there is history between Scotland and France if you know what I mean, nudge nudge, wink wink Cool

It's 04:50 and we currently have one despondant Scotsman working in our warehouse.
And to be totally impartial, we have one very happy Scotsman working in our warehouse...

All I can say is thank [insert deity] for that.

I suspected it would closer than that but it is good there is clear water between the 2 sides.

Now we can work towards a new normality as a single sort of United, kingdom.

No, not as close, but I was thinking that No voters might say that they were voting YES, but YES voters wouldn't claim on the phone and in the street that they we putting a cross on the NO.
I guess the difference is the number of folk who were fibbing Smile

The yes supporters were/are very vocal and there was a sense that to say No was an invitation to be challenged. This is demonstrated by the number of Better Together posters that were vandalised.

Frankly I'm glad we can start to talk about something else.

I think exactly the same outcome. English would vote them to leave, because they must want to leave, or they wouldn't ask?
Folk aren't all that complicated when it gets down to the basics. Somebody asks for something, you help them out.
And as such, you wonder if this was the political game all along? To have a vote and loose? Because a yes vote would have been a sure thing with an open UK vote.

Is it like a good legal case where the loser foots the bill for all this or does 55% mean it's knock for knock?

Or by the fact that were now staying together mean we're the winner and the loser... Confused

And does that mean that all those that campaigned yes are now out of work or does that mean that we have another coalition with two people doing every job Confused

Or do things just stay the same meaning all this money, work and resources have been wasted?

Or do I need to go do something useful?

There is no need for Salmond to stand down - he was elected with a mandate to seek a referendum on Independence and he did it. The fact that a majority didn't want it is not the issue.

I foresee a 'federal' United Kingdom with modernisation of many of our political institutions - good for everyone IMO

No one has lost their job, no one is being castigated or pilloried for tyheir opinion - this is Scotland not some banana republic.

Nothing has been wasted. This was a debate that was much needed and it allowed discussion of some difficult subjects which will benefit everyone. 85% turnout, 97% voter registration, a whole population engaged in the decisions affecting their Country. This can ONLY be a good thing.

It should, in my opinion, be a god thing to stay united, but sometimes I wonder when I read comments such as:

"Because a yes vote would have been a sure thing with an open UK vote. "

We know when we're not welcome! Crying or Very sad Confused

It's okay DD, they just know its safe to bait us again now that the Scots regiments are still fighting for the UK and not just Scotland.

Now for the painful discovery of the English national identity, one that goes past pasties, warm beer, cricket football hooligans and casual racism/homophobia Wink Laughing

So he goes then - I think, reading the comments posted about his attitude to Scotland leaving the Union, it might have been his best decision yet!

Oh dear, I'm upsetting folk again Embarassed

My theory of it being a political scam to get power away from London win or loose looks blown. Why on earth has he resigned? He has likely won Scotland a load of internal control. He should have got a raise !

Hi,

55 is roughly 20% more than 44, so not really a close run thing,

OK, I know you should take averages of averages, but does the same apply to percentages?

When England gets home rule, can we have a new capital city in the middle, with London kept for cultural stuff? New city to be built on hexagon layout, so all junctions have only three roads in/out.
