I haven't heard one word against Scotland around here (Midlands). No body is fussed. Flick through any history book and these boundaries and rulers always change. One dude was once king of England and France at one point. There was a British Empire, and before that a Roman Empire. Now it is called a "European Union", which in the eyes of many is an Empire. And honestly I don't think it will make any difference. If you go sell in Germany you might go Tunnel-France-Belgium-Germany (Holland as well I think) and the road signs might change a bit on the way. That's it, the rest is paper work.

Of course they do. They just want to run it as a subsidiary of the UK with all the new powers Dave has promised them.

Incorrect. Most people I know who are No voters are quite satisfied with the status quo. We, Scotland, voted for Devolution along with tax raising powers which have not been exercised and we did so with our hearts in our mouths.
As a last day's opening salvo can I just point out that of the 10 or so Better Together filed banners and posters I see on my way to work each day, every single one has been vandalised multiple times and last night the 4 on my road were destroyed. Of the 4 or 5 yes banners I see not one has been attacked.
This morning I overheard this being discussed as I collected by tea and roll.
Quote: | In EK shopping centre yesterday I was stopped by an opinion poll company and asked if was going to vote and whether in person or by post and was I intending to vote yes or no. I was harangued by 3 people who approached the Pollster and me as I was being questioned about being unpatriotic and not a true Scot for voting no. I walked off rather than fight my corner and when I looked back the 3 guys had walked off across the plaza and were stood waiting for the next one to come along. The Pollster was on the phone and visibly very upset. I stopped at the Centre's information desk and reported what had happened to be told that the Police were on their way as these guys had been doing this again and again. |
The guy who was telling this was absolutely disgusted with their behaviour, as was everyone else whether Yes or No people but whilst we've heard plenty about campaigners trying to drown each other out and normal 'robust' campaigning but vandalism and intimidation are totally anti-democratic but hallmarks of many a Nationalist campaign.
Is this the kind of people we want to have running our Country? The SNP campaign is an emotive one, the clarion call of which I have always liked BUT nothing they say holds water. They can give no facts to support their claims and everything but everything they say comes down to "don't worry, of course we'll be able to negotiate it".
I urge anyone with a vote in tomorrow's referendum to vote for stability, for continued long term recovery, for common sense. A vote 'No' will still see change for the whole of the UK and especially Scotland but within the UK. We really are better together especially given a choice between being ruled from Westminster or Brussels.

Bearing in mind that the Daily Mail is not known for balanced reporting and that calling Yes supporters "separatists" is just a little inflammatory, this is what I've been banging on about from day 1.
Nationalism always carries the danger of extremism.
Something else to bear in mind
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-29223389
Because of the fear of harassment people may (note the word 'may') be more likely to tell pollsters that they are voting yes. There is an unknown level of self selection so there could be a surprisingly larger gap than we're expecting ... or not.

You're lucky. Bombs and murder are also hallmarks of a nationalist campaign in my experience!
The question is what will be the Nationalists next step be if there is a no vote? Will the militants get more militant?

'kin Eck has made a big point in every debate that he will accept the will of the Scottish voters. Of course, he has recently moved away from "this is our one chance ever" through "once in a lifetime" to "once in a political generation".
If it is no, expect a lot of noise, possibly a General Election Scotland next year as the SNP seek (or are forced) a fresh mandate to get Independence by another route.
One can only hope that the lunatic fringes drown their sorrows and accept the democratic process.

I know you're being flipant but that's not possible, and plays into the hands of the yes voters - England is not the UK, just a part of it.

Just heard on Jeremy Vine that people are being lobbied to vote on religious grounds - Protestants No, Catholics Yes. Now where have I heard that before?

People are being lobbied for every silly reason.
Jeremy Vine's show is sensationalist nonsense barely worthy of The Sun or Daily Fail, frankly

Your bias reveals itself - I was using my PC!
That said, and going way OT, I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of my iPhone 6, assuming that the world does not end at breakfast time on Friday.

Nope. I buy something because it does the job I need it to do and I cope with the idiosyncracies. I've had android devices and I hated them, I like the iphone because it just works. That said I don't exactly push the envelope on useability.
I'm not sucked in to being a Apple hateboy
10 stars to Ed BTW!

I like the guy before Jeremy vine. He'd trick folk into admitting the most outrageous things
That's probably why they wanted rid of him. Could have done with more proper interviewer's for this YES NO stuff.

Hi,
Hang on ... the YES brigade say they want Independence, so they get the government they voted for.
Then they claim they will have no difficulty remaining in the EU.

yup, thats the joke.
and loads are falling for it.
but i dont think theyve thought that far ahead...
and..... they wont remain in the EU. they will have to re apply.
this is the spanish prime minister in the telegraph
"For Scotland, secession would be a catastrophe," GarcĂa-Margallo said in reply to a parliamentary question. "It would end up in a Balkanisation process that nobody in Europe wants right now."
"The UK, for its part, would be damaged, its political-economic prestige undermined in the world, and the EU needs the UK," he added.
While Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has repeatedly declined to be drawn on whether Spain would exercise a veto on admitting an independent Scotland to the EU, he recalled that any application would need the unanimous approval of all 28 member states .
"I have spoken to the representatives of the 28 states and enthusiasm for processes of this type is nil, because I understand they are bad for the region in question, for the state and the EU as a whole. They harm the wealth, employment and welfare of all EU citizens," Rajoy said. "I fear there will be very few facilities for whoever joins in such processes."
"A region may indeed apply for EU membership if it acts legally. It's a process which takes years; it took Spain eight years, and many more for Croatia, the last to join," he added.
Rajoy also noted that any region to break away would be automatically deprived of EU benefits as well as membership.
"The community chest would not apply to them; no freedom of movement for people, capital, goods, services, the currency, the European Central Bank or agricultural aid," he said.

Well, I voted at about 8.45am and there was already a very steady stream of voters coming in, and it looks like this will be the way of things right up until 10pm.

Mmmmm, Spain doesn't want an independent Scotland as it will give the Basque seperatist movement more ammo (pardon the phrase).
Ditto any other countries with seperatists.
If the EU wants the Ukraine to join what happens about the seperatists in the Crimea and the conflict there?
France doesn't want an independent Scotland since it will weaken the UK in its stance against Germany in the EU. I think that economically the rUK would be 4th in the list behind Italy, rather than as part of the big three along with France and Germany.
Ditto most of the other non-pro Germany countries in the EU, hence the support from them for the No vote.
