Hiya,
I have a 1995 2L V6 vitara and when I push the light stalk forward to select high beam all forward facing lights switch off. Needless to say I had to change my pants when I first realised this problem! There doesn't seem to be any lose connections and the fuses are fine. The bulbs are also working fine as main beam and flash function work ok too. I reckon sometime in the past someone fitted spot lights to it and had those wired up as high beam but it looks like that was all taken out correctly and there appears to be no reason why it won't work.
Any suggestions or am I being a mong and have missed something glaringly obvious?

vits are switched neutral on the lights, rather than live.
i would check this first, there are no shorts on high beam.
are they going off or going dim?

Sounds like the high/low switch at fault to me as the flash still works.
If somebody connected spotlights to high beam without using a relay it may well have overloaded the switch. Having said this, it would also need a larger fuse fitting in the light circuit but this may have been switched back when the spotlights were removed.
Time to get the multimeter out I guess.
