A question for those with more knowledge on the matter;
Would a poorly earthed dizzy cause uneven running and the same black spark plugs as if running rich along with a lack of power?

Cheers
Turns out that may the reason behind the Allday's recent rough running problems and my difficulty in jetting properly. I found that 1 cylinder (no2) was just right yet the others were rich or very rich. The car was not running right either when under load and nothing I did made it any better.
First came up on the first long run a few weeks ago when after 30+ miles it got progressively weaker and slower until it wouldn't run right at all.
The engineer noticed sparking from the adv/ret control collar and the conversion box the coil sits in. He's checked all engine bolt torques and clearances, sorted a couple of pesky oil leaks (but left enough for it to be recognizably old and British) and put an earth wire from Dizzy to chassis.
Collecting it tomorrow.

Had a similar problem with the V8. Tried everything to get it to run right and ended up being a dodgy main earth
