hello all. here is my beast of burden, the poor fella

dunno dos this picture quite convey what he gets put through. when i bought it there was 480,000 miles on the clock. i had one previous to this with more miles and strangely, a stronger engine. both are non turbo.

anyways, after yet another hammering yesterday, we got back to the house. i dropped off the tools to the front door and was reversing it down to where its parked, when the engine started to die.

so. if i gun it, its okay, but it wont idle, It'll chug along slower and slower and then within 5 seconds it dies.
If i turn the key it'll start again, but then dies.

i realise this could be a myriad things. The battery in it is weak, but these dont need a battery to run, correct?

probably, im thinking, its something to do with the fuel system. Do the injection pumps often give problems? if its the pump then its prob time for a new fourtak. There is oil and water in it it, and it wasnt overheating.
The thermostat was removed a long time ago and i fitted an extra fan in front of the rad to keep the temp down.

would dirt in the fuel give these symptoms?

cheers for reading.

Change the fuel filter and fill the filter up with injector cleaner and take it for a hard drive

If that doesn't help much then see if the tank breather is clear
