Looking to put some 265/70/17 tyres on my L200 start of next month. Options are
BFG Mud
BFG AT
Cooper STT
Maxxis MT764
Unless people reckon the BFG are a million miles ahead and will last a LOT longer then they are out because of the initial purchase price really.
The Cooper are my front runners as they seem to have good reviews all round and be a bit cheaper than the BFG (I can get them for £150 / corner all in and fitted)
However I can save over £100 if I go for the Maxxis.
Can anyone tell me reliably if they are any good as all round tyres, some road mileage (so want to be quiet) and shoot days / dog training off road all year round.
Based on staying safe I am inclined to go with the Coopers but if people are having really good results with the Maxxis and they will last well for mileage then I am open to trying them
Or any other similar stuff people are using, don't really want remoulds as they seem hard work to reliably replace.
Thanks
Dan

I'm very pleased with the BFG ATs on the Defender. Quiet and well behaved on road, good off-road for an AT and are wearing well.

I have a set of BFG ATs on my Pajero - it is my daily - the BFGs went on in 2010 brand new they are just showing signs of wear on the front outers (retracked back in Nov last year - no extra signs of wear since) Apart from that they're not even halfway through the tread yet.
I have a set of BFG MTs on my off-roader they were second hand around 2006/7 and they're still going strong
BFGs are American and the Americans like their "tires" to last a long time
Last a lot longer? you bet - well worth the extra money if you can afford it...

Dan, the Maxxis will be quiter than you think about the same noise as the STT which are fairly quite in my eyes for a mud terrain type pattern.Know a few people in Oz using them they are happy with them.

Thanks for the replies.
Does anyone know what the wear rate compares like?
£20 a corner cheaper soon pales away when you have to replace them twice as often!
Still erring towards the STT unless someone can convince me the Maxxis are good quality!
Thanks
Dan

Well the Coopers are on and ready to roll.
Bit more noise on the road but nothing that you really notice.
Bit more skittish in the wet when you boot it out of a roundabout (to see if they are more skittish, nothing that isn't easily handled)
Hopefully will make the mud etc easily navigable!

What rear pressure you running Dan, the reason i ask is that all tyres have a silicone coating on them, it helps to get them out of the mould. If you had them fitted in the last couple of days and done little or no mileage on them damp roads will cause the vehicle to step out, running a little less pressure and taking care on roundabouts for a couple of hundred miles or so will soon get rid of the coating, but don't forget the fronts will be affected as well so if it's wet take into account the tyres are new.

Cheers Mr Tyre
They are a couple of hundred miles in now and not noticed them being skittish really apart from when I tried to see how far I could push them.
Happy with them so far so we will just have to see what the wear rate is like over time.
Thanks for all the advice!
