This weekend I've completed the engine mounts. Here they are with the poly bushes fitted. Took a bit of getting them right but after I sussed it they came out well.

New rear mount fitted:

New front mount fitted:

I have fitted the other two mounts but I forgot to take photos. The engine is now very steady and they look tidy. Theres also alot more room around the bay.

The rear prop is back on and it's looking good. Even the small movement of the engine has really straightened it up. This should put a lot less strain on everything. For now I'm putting it together with the original rear prop, once everythings back together I'll rebuild it with the Milner bearing.

Sunday I did my first trial since refitting the engine. Everything was going well until the bearing on the rear prop decided it had had enough. Therefore, it was time to sort it out, hopefully once and for all!

Original setup:

Knackered bearing:

The original setup has 2 main issues. Firstly it is fitted with the original bearing from the Honda driveshaft mounted in a custom housing. This bearing was never really designed to take the loads from the propshaft and it relies on a couple of C-clips to hold it in place. If the slider gets a bit stiff it could just push the centre of the bearing out, which is was I suspect happened Sunday.

The second problem is if the shaft itself snaps, it's a pretty big hassle to fit a new one - mainly because it has a bearing and housing on it.

Right then, the new setup - currently only tacked up:

New Milner bearing taking the place of the old Honda bearing. It's now a super short shaft in the original Honda cup to the milner bearing but as it's not two shafts joined together it shouldn't have any weak spots (well not as bad as two shafts joined together!)

I've still got some bracing to do and I need to bolt the mount through the bottom rail. I'm also bracing it up to the side bar of the truck to try and eliminate any twisting forces. Once it's in there properly I'm convinced it'll be a much better set up that before Very Happy

Maybe the end of my rear prop woes? We'll see...[/img]

Hi Chris, Cool to see this locally in west wales a few weekends back. (I was the random dude who turned up)

Thought I'd seen it somewhere before. Just read your thread for number 2, that axle is looking freaky! Love it.

Well it's been a little while since I've updated this. The rear prop is now complete with the milner bearing. So far it's proved reasonably successful. I have broke the small shaft once when I had the truck bouncing but I think any setup is likely to fail when in this situation. I now also carry a couple of spares!

Since the rear prop, the next modification has been the air shocks. Since the original build I've done very little with them other than gas them up. For some reason I was under the impression they weren't very adjustable - it would appear that's utter rubbish!

Whilst sourcing new airshocks for Screamer 2, I started speaking to Paul at Prolinx. With him being local to me and appearing extremely knowledgeable I bought 4 shocks and asked to have mine refurbed and revalved. With a description of some it's characteristics and a few weights he set to work. A week later I had 2 new airshocks and 2 reconditioned ones (it worked out almost as cheap to buy 2 new ones as the old ones had chipped shafts). My GOD what a difference!

For 3 years I've used the standard fox valving, something I now know to be useless. I've put up with tramping, bottoming out, lurching and generally a soft boaty ride. In a complete contrast the truck is now much more responsive, stable and really sucks up the bumps. I've even cut off the front bump stops. The bouncing seems to be pretty much gone completely (should save my rear props!) and I can hit banks much harder without the truck rearing up as before. Overall it's completely transformed it and I've been very impressed with the performance.

If anyone needs anything to do with fox air shocks with regards to supply/refurb/tuning, contact Paul at Prolinx suspension. http://www.prolinx.biz/

Competition wise things have also been going well. The first 4 rounds of this years National Championship have come and gone. I clinched the first two rounds at Buildwas so a good start. Losing a tyre in round 3 cost me dearly but everything went well on round 4 again claiming a win. 3 out of 4 rounds so far so the title defense has started well Very Happy

This weekend just gone I also ventured to Germany for the weekend to drive a round in their national championship. It was basically a mini Eurotrial as there were 8 sections open all day with a bonus Promodified and Prototype section at the end for everyone to watch. The day went well only running down a few gates. There was some strange mud there that my tyres weren't really geared up for so I lost out to those with more aggressive tyres. That said I still managed 4th out of 8 which I was happy with. The Germans were excellent hosts and given the opportunity I'll try and get to whatever rounds I can.

So... the next job... Tomorrow I'm going to try and fit a hydraulic mile marker winch to the front, a removable spare tyre holder and an additional petrol tank. This is all preparation for entering KOV this year. Updates to come...

Sounds like it has become a really good truck Smile
I love that it's like nothing else !

If you have the milemarker off I have a half decent mod; fit a Greece nipple to the gearbox cheek just above the big plastic bearing. You can't Greece it without stripping it normally and I know when it has gotten dry, as the free-spool is very good. Now I can re-lube it on the truck Smile

Have you got any pictures of where to put the grease nipple location? Sounds a good mod to do!

Got the winch mount done today. Took a while but it's looking sturdy enough, just needs a coat of paint. Gonna get some hoses made tomorrow and it will hopefully all be up and running.

Excuse the poor quality pictures, it was nearly dark and my phones playing up:

Tomorrow... fuel tank Smile

I haven't, but it's on that thicker bit of casting where the cross bars join on. Top side, so it is out of the way. It drills just to the gearbox side of the 'O' ring, else the Greece will come out drum side. If you drop the cross bar bolts and lever/poke a little on the housing you will see the O ring seal a few mm's in. But probably better to drop the housing off so you can get the drill hole between plastic annular bearing and O ring.

Not updated this for a while as I've been pretty busy. It's that time of year again, Eurotrial preparation. This year is a little worse though as 2 days after I'm planning to return it's off to Walters Arena for King of the Valleys 2014.

So it's been the usual deal of strip it all down, brakes off, props off, new belts, new switches etc., new isolator, finally removed the ABS pumps and associated wiring/controls, repsray, reassemble, basically just go over as much as I could to try and minimise silly problems in Slovakia/Walters.

We're leaving for Slovakia tomorrow evening to arrive sometime Wednesday. The truck is currently on its Iroks but due to the crap weather forecast and the threat of serious mud I'm also taking my Alligators with me. I always struggle in mud with the Iroks so if it looks bad I'll have to sacrifice a bit of height for grip.

Other then that there's largely no change in the truck since last year.

As for KoV there's been a list of additions required. Obviously the winch is the biggest change. There's also space for a spare wheel, hi-lift, rear lights and brake lights, additional air intake for the radiator, rear-steer lock, added fuel tank... quite a lot really. It's all quite a squeeze!

The target for KoV will certainly not be to win it as I will simply be too slow. Surviving 90 odd mile of offroading over the weekend would be an awesome achievement though so that's really the aim. The rocks arn't a real concern as I've been up most of them, it's really whether everything will hold together over the distance. Only time will tell!

**Grr stupid thing won't import a photo of the vinyls**

My race number for KoV is 13 - should be fun Wink

No co-driver as such. But of help in the pits but out there I'm on my own. It's a lonely life sometimes!
