I'm looking for a waterproof (or as near as dammit) lined car cover for the Alldays for overnight rally stops and those days I need to have it out of the garage and on the carport.

I've found http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Quality-Car-Covers at a car show and come across http://www.hamiltonclassic.co.uk on google and the products seem very similar. Cost seems to be around £200 but does anyone have any other ideas or suppliers?

I'd been keen to hear opinions too as the MX5 may spend a bit of time in the winter laid up and I don't have a garage

I spoke with the chap from Quality Car Covers (QCC) at the Strathmore Car show at Glamis Castle and he measured up my car.

The covers mostly seem to be a microporous cover with a series of membrane layers with a soft, non scratch inner lining. Their show price inc delivery is a reasonable £188 (normally £225 I think)

I looked around, spoke with several companies and I think 90% of what is out there, all at remarkably similar prices, all come from the same manufacturer or manufacturers apart from one or two that are clearly much better quality but also twice the price.

I've ordered one from QCC, as I was offered the show price and I'll see what it's like when it arrives.

The blurb says that even a wet car will dry out under one of these covers and whilst pooled water will seep through the cover is all but waterproof. I'll report back when I get it. If it's not the quality I expect it will be returned but I reckon £188 is a decent investment.

What amazes me about car covers is how many people transport their cars with covers on. I did that with a Triumph Bonneville and wore out the paint on parts of the tank and frame in under 100 miles!

Those "bra's" for caravans are necessary in certain countries. Not in the UK as most roads are tar. Should you pull a caravan on a gravel road the the paint will soon be removed.

Actually those "bras"* were developed for the new range of Bailey caravan, the fronts of which couldn't handle UK roads without chipping and splitting Rolling Eyes

Bailey didn't introduce them - they just made caravans with crappy fronts so an enterprising cover maker came up with the idea of the caravan "bra" Laughing

Somebody must have been looking at both Jurgens and Campworld. Campworld have been selling them for years.

A long way from the blanket for your car Richard.

Incidently. Neither Bush Lapa or Conqueror seem to use them, Both use Checker plate on the front.

Richard,

Phone Sheila at

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Campervan-Caravan-Mot...sh=item565ab78fb6

Based just outside Cumnock.

She made a custom cover for my boat, recovered all the seats, side panels and internal cushions for a fraction of anyone else I've found (£300 all in). The quality is spot on and uses high quality marine material. She'll make a custom cover for your car a lot cheaper than a generic one from the high street.
