Been chasing info on a lane in Cumbria and would like some further info if anyone out there knows more. Local name is Coneygarth Lane, mr SD60397543 - SD60477365, this lane crosses the river Lune but no ford is shown on any mapping and appears to be a rather wide crossing. Checked with all the usual sites etc, TIA.

ORPA either side, BUT on the 1:50000 and 1:25000 it shows the ORPA on the southern side starts some distance away from the river. I also noted it isn't listed on the Wetroads page, and Lee is normally fairly accurate on even closed fords, so I'm guessing it might have been abondoned some time ago.

As an ORPA you would need to check the "List of Streets" with the relevant Highways Dept, and not the Definitive Map.

I checked all the Lancs entries, and the "closed" ones and couldn't find it.

Ah the plot thickens, perhaps a visit to the local font of knowledge may help (pub).

Perhaps we can lay this to rest now, looking on Old Maps it seems that there was "Conygarth Ford" at this point up until 1919, after that it disappears but it also shows a possible sand bank close to the southeastern Lune bank not shown on more modern maps which the ford crossed.
If anyone out there remembers a grandad driving his model T Ford across we could prove vehicular rights, Wink
