Make sure the leisure battery replaces the "comfort" battery, rather than the one used for starting.

Both batteries on a Pajero are for starting = you have two simply because you need the combined power of both to start the engine - it is easier to find room for two batteries at have the size of the one that would be needed.

So.... changing one of these batteries for a leisure battery is a no-no and begs the question why you would want to do it anyway

people who I have spoke to say that it only needs one battery for starting and the reason for 2 is for the cold weather in japan, I know that I need to replace the main one with a higher one and the reason I want a leisure battery is so that I can run things off it while camping if there are no power available where we stop , so that it don't drain the main battery

fit a third battery (leisure) in the back with a split charge system. wont interfere with starting and easier to get to for running stuff off...

The people that you have spoken to are giving you "internet" answers - it will start on one - just! - Forget winter packs - no such thing - all Mk2 2.8s, at least, are fitted with 2 batteries because they couldn't fit one big battery in.

It is also important to replace them in pairs as well otherwise you will get problems.

Leisure battery as Ged says...
