|
|
|
HI
Ok so reading stuff online tonight and came across a few stories of 2 stroke oil being mixed in with derv to help lube the engine keep injectors clean and generally make it run smoothly and more economicaly apparently it also helps tone down the normal knocking from a derv wagon
So is there any truth to this and will it be safe to run in my td4 freelander it's the bmw m47 lump if that helps/makes a difference
I get fair mpg at the moment but an extra couple will make a big deal over a tank full
Cheers
Pete

I've been using it in the 110 for about 5,000 miles at a ratio of roughly 250ml per 70 litres of diesel (maybe a bit more sometimes) and I notice as much as 3mpg better consumption as well as smoother and quieter running.
I bought a 25 litre drum of 2 stroke and it costs me roughly 1.25p per litre of diesel. As I now get ~28mpg rather than 25mpg this gives the same result as premium derv for about 7p per litre less.

Blimey so it does work then, is your 110 a later model as in td5 or puma engine as some say it's not great in a newer engine. Can't see why as it's such a small amount mixed in with the derv. Only thing I can see being affected is the spray pattern from the injectors because of the slightly thicker fuel

some use it in veg for the same reasons.
but i was doing a bit of digging and found 2 EHN.
2-Ethyl-Hexyl Nitrate boost the cetane levels and gives a more complete burn, less smoke and more power and mpg.
its the active ingredient in bioboost, veggieboost, biotane and most off the shelf injector cleaners.
i ran it in mine and saw a huge difference (not just imaginary)
the turbo spools out at 2800rpm and after three there was smoke, noise and not much else. the natural gear change point was about 3400rpm.
after adding 2ml per litre initial dose, there was a huge improvement. no smoke on tickover, no tremble when cold, at about 3100 rpm its like having a 2 stroke as the bloody thing takes off until just over 4000rpm.
so its given me another 1000 ish rpm of useable power. thats a lot on a low revving diesel.
fuel consumption is better, but my driving is too erratic for quantifiable figures.
i tried it in a rover 75 bmw powered thingy and the guy was well impressed. said where he would normally change down for hills, he just puts his foot down.
tried it in a ovlov xc90 and same findings. sharper and felt "lighter"
most of the veggie world now uses it in varying doses.
i run between one and one and a half Ml per litre unless im towing then i double up.
i buy 5L for about 50 quid, but that treats up to 5000L
you can get it by the litre too, but as usual it costs more.
cant help with the lubrication, ive got plenty of that in my fuel.
and if you had said last week, i had some with me......

Ged
If my calculator is right, the initial dose for your stuff costs 20p per litre of diesel (£50/5l = 1p/ml). What is the ongoing dosage?
I calculated that using 2 stroke oil cost me about 1.2p per litre of diesel for a ~12% improvement in mpg but big difference in driveability roughly comparable with using premium derv.
Mine is a 2012 2.2tdci engine

2ml per litre. initial(you wouldnt need that on derv btw)
ongoing i use 1-1.5 depending on my oil (if it looks burnt, i add 1.5ml per L)

so its only 0.25p cheaper than your two stroke, but i`ll bet you a tenner for team chaos that it gives you more umph.
ive tried t32 hydraulic, acetone, two stroke, loads of off the shelf stuff.
this is the only stuff i can say hand on heart that i have Noticed a difference.

I have no problem with using the forum on my iphone It's crap for using as a phone but hey ho
I'll not take up your bet, you're certainly right but I'd never heard of the stuff and I've got a years worth of 2 stroke left.
As they say, every day's a school day and it's amazing what you can learn on here (where's that thumbs up smiley?)

Well I'm shocked, went to the garage and bought some two stroke oil slapped some in the landy..... Done about 40 miles since and and after around 15-20 miles it's bloody magic
Power delivery is as smooth as a baby's forehead. It's much quieter than before vastly more responsive and at motorway speeds the 60-80 mph pick up is mind blowing compared to this morning
Totally impressed
Highly recommend if you have not been using it you should
