Hi all, um looking on increasing the distance covered on my 81. I currently use a motorola cm340 with the standard whip mounted on a magmount. Is their any way off using a tripod/ mast etc to increase distance when in a valley etc?

I use one like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/17FT-PORTABLE-ALUMINI...sh=item46152c75ae

I made a mounting plate that goes under my wheel and then I slot the mast into the upright. Secure with guy lines.

I then have a suitably cut whip that mounts into a mount with three ground planes. This is then connected via length of RG213 Coax.
If you want a picture I can set-up the gear and take a picture.

What's your call-sign ?
Mine is Gemini 33/Gemini Recovery

I thought that there was a height limit the normal operators were limited to, and that only "Control" could use a mast?

If there are height limits, its never been mentioned to me and I have been asked by a controller to bring my mast.

If you do find the regs regarding this then please share.

What's the dimensions on tip of the mast, wall thickness at the tip ?

I think the rule about mast heights is 9 mts. I have no idea where I read that!!
