Much as I love my 4ltr XJ I would not recommend you to buy one parts can be a problem as they had the habit of changing things so some parts can be a problem getting the rite one. you can look on the net and find just what you need in the US for a good price but by majic when it gets to this country it cost three times as much what with post and tax etc.

I changed to a Suzuki Vitara good off road bad on petrol and it had no go in it after the 4ltr jeep so I got the jeep back again but if I could afford it I would have got a Disco if I could find a good rust free on plenty of cheap parts and people about that now how to fix them garages do not seem to like jeeps that is what I have found over the years.

Can you clarify what model of Jeep you're looking for? An XJ, a TJ, a YJ, a WJ? That would help in any advice given.

The 4L engine is pretty much indestructible. Possibly the best engine Jeep ever produced, and a direct descendant of the earlier 4.2L that dated back to the mists of time.

Parts are easy enough to get in the UK. Never had a problem myself. Though it may be worthwhile joining one of the UK Jeep forums for a wider audience in your decision making and potential parts searches. I recommend ******** or JeepJunkies

Edit: Really?!?!?! Rolling Eyes Swearword checker fail!

as long as the 4ltr is not a 99/2001 with the dodgy c-head that they say a lot of the crack at 90000 + that B forum looks interesting I have seen it before a while ago but well worth a look.

You should have a word with Dave http://www.llama4x4.co.uk/

I think that you will have to get in to the back and pull the cover back to get at the rear door lock it happened to me once but I am to old and big to get over there but my friend did it in no time as long as your XJ is rust free in a lot of ways the older ones are better than the later ones to get parts for good luck with it they are great fun to drive if a bit thirsty that is why my XJ runs on LPG.
