Well i was listening ot the local news again earlier and it seems that this little acorn has started bobbing up and down in the pond again
..
for those of you out of the know
http://circuitofwales.com/
basically they have started to raise cash, and as of last month had applied for a uk government grant, to help build the circuit.
i have seen the plans (public consultation) and i think its going to be a bloody good circuit, it WILL bring a lot of money locally into one of the most deprived areas of wales (both in its construction and running daily), and the council has already set aside land in anticipation of final planning assessment for the circuit.
this is the bit that got me... there was an objector to the plans (specifically the uk.gov funding bit) which just happened to be...
silverston race circuit,
Anyone else think there is a little bit of a conflict of interest here with them objecting to the circuit? or is it just me.

Hmmm - where do the main racing manufacturers live?
Then again what are they afraid of?

Does Silverstone get government funding? If not I can understand their objection...

well, the government funding is part of a business focused regeneration... so it would be in that respect that they are applying, and have already been granted funding by the EU for this for the same reason.

Hi,
I thought there already was a motor racing venue in South Wales ... the DVLA car park at knocking off time.

What are Silverstone's grounds for objection?

Maybe they are objecting to it based on:
A) More competition
B) C-o-W is getting funding when Silvertstone maybe didn't

I might be wrong but I think Silverstown got a load of money so that they could make improvements neccessary to keep the British GP

There is, its at Pembrey.
I believe that Silverstone's objection is based on the fact that they were refused government funding and that funding for the CoW would therefore be unfair competition.

Hi,
My SWMBO was about to do a circuit of Pembrey, with the SHVR, when another member decided her Reliant Sabre was too scruffy, so he lent her his TR6. She also had a blast round ther Llandow circuit in her TVR Vixen, during a classic ralley. But she found her birthday bash round Silverstone in an Aston Matin followeed by a Ferrari were best of all. Er ... that was her 70th birthday. Quick lesson in paddle gearshifts, then straight into the "traffic" and up to 120mph. SDhe now loves to drop in a "Tell me about it!" when discussing the British GP.
My daughter managed to get us free tickets for the F1 Friday practice at Silverstone in 2012. Only 10 miles from daughter's house to the circuit, but it took us two and a half hours. As we were leaving after it was all over, we met somebody arriving. He had parked his car as close as he could, and had been walking ... since 11AM. My daughter asked if we would like more tickets. We said "No thankyou".
If I lived anywhere near Silverstone, I would object to any Government funding, unless it was to build flyovers. But as we are moving to NN soon, I am all in favoiur of funding for the CoW.

Last time I went to Silverstone for a race meet it was a club event. I think it cost £10 or £15 to get in. For that you could go everywhere, including the pits and around half the stands were open. It was a very cheap day out and the racing was excellent, its a shame that most people will only consider going to a race meeting if its a big event.

Hi,
When SWMBO had a Reliant Sabre, we went along to Shelsey Walsh to support the club members who were competing.
Being a Saturday, it was practice day, so we could stroll around the pits chatting to all an sundry, watch the start line from close up (makes your ears hurt) then walk up the hill to watch them playing silly buggers. And the car park was free. But that must have been in the late 1980s, maybe its different now.
