So, I'm a wiganer, so consumption of pastry product's is pretty much genetic....
Having just enjoyed a damm good calzone (meat feast with extra chillies )
It got me wondering what everyone else enjoys. For me, something with all the essential food groups (bread, dead animal, cheese and chillies) is just about heaven, coming in the form of a 12" span pasty just tops it off.
Thoughts please.

You can tell if you have wigan blood, you start to itch when you don't have a pie/pasty for a few days....

pizza. Calzone has too much cheese, all the SPAM sits in the bottom and they never go cold enough not to burn you!!!

Speaking as an ex-native of Naples - where pizza was invented - it has to be a Southern Italian pizza everytime. Freshly made dough in a red hot wood fired oven crisped for 3 minutes. My favourite is the marinara - tomato, fresh basil leaves and a touch of garlic drizzled in olive oil.
But if in the UK I will make myself a calzone.

Has to be pizza for me - a 15" for a fiver any topping - mind you we used to buy the basic pizza from sainsbury's then add our own toppings plus extra cheese plus more extra cheese and top it off with extra cheese....
We like cheese in case you hadn't noticed

I know a lot of my old travel/expedition threads have wandered off into the sunset. They were probably well past their sell by date though.

Pizza for one:
270g plain flour
7g dried yeast
150ml (warmish) water
splash of olive oil
teaspoon of salt
Mix the dry stuff together with the olive oil and begin to knead, adding the water as required as you go along.
Once all the flour is is mixed in and not sloppy (add a touch more flour) or dry and flaky (add a little (teeny amount of) water), cover and place in a warm place for a couple of hours to rise.
Roll out to shape required, add whatever (raw) toppings you want, drizzle a bit of olive oil over the top and cook at the top of the hotest your oven will go.
Some suggested toppings:
The red stuff: can of tomatoes, add bit of finely chopped garlic/onion, basil &oregano and reduce to make a thickish sauce.
If you don't want a red pizza - chop a courgette finely and soften/steam in a covered pan with olive oil and garlic. Then add other toppings as required.
Sweet peppers are better than normal peppers.
Any salami will do. You can choose from spicy to quite plain ones. Cut them quite thin otherwise they won't cook properly.
Mozzarella: Before adding to your pizza, take it out the packet, drain, cut into smallish chunks and continue to drain in a colander (otherwise its just a bit too damp to cook properly and will make the base go soggy.
I quite like cracking an egg onto the middle of the pizza just before popping in the oven. Cooks perfectly!
My children also like designing their own pizzas.
Using 270g flour should also leave a bit left over to make dough balls which can then be smothered in garlic butter.

That's the recipe I use - dunno where I pinched it from.
The best topping for me is a decent smear of tomato puree, very thin slices of beef tomatoes and anchovies - lots of them - and decorated with asparagus spoke fashion.
