Hiya Folks
I'm off to the Builth Wells area this weekend. Yes, I know, it'll be wet. But plans were made to fit in with one of the newbies in the group with her new 4x4 that only has this weekend off in several months...
Anyway. So I've looked at a bunch of lanes, and I'm still looking though. There are a few in the Llandovery area but that might be a bit far for us this time. Maybe in Summer? Not that it would matter as as I dig deeper I find a lot of lanes have TROs on
Anyway.
SN 94010 49615 to SN 92465 48280 Coed Clunmelyn
SN 92040 47840 to SN 92005 46950 Glancamddwr
SN 78320 40755 to SN 78405 41845 Rhandirmwyn 1
SN 79055 42240 to SN 78805 42600 Rhandirmwyn 2
SN 78100 42155 to SN 78155 43605 Rhandirmwyn 3 (TRO) Closed
SN 78440 53335 to SN 73895 54105 Soar Y Mynydd (VR) so closed.
Strata Florida (No NGR required, it's burnt into my memory!)
SN 86903 63395 to SN 88779 62292 Claerwen Dam Base
SN 96115 68590 to SN 92144 70652 Esgair Dderw (Rhyader NW)
SN 99490 73700 to SO 02245 74970 St Harmon (Rhyader NE)
I've tried to email some people for the area, such as the Glass Rep without a response but most of these we've driven before but I've not run/organised it in, er, some time... er maybe 5 years?
We've contingency plans for most things because, well, it's gonna just wee it down all weekend according to BBC Weather so yeah, I think I will take my waterproofs
Any help will be much appreciated. Anyway, I am gonna pop out now to help Xamtex with his 4x4 rear diff

Only can comment on these:
Claerwen Dam Base
Esgair Dderw (Rhyader NW)
Both open , but with the weather as it has been I would certainly be doubtful about using the last one, especially as it goes through a sensitive area.
St Harmon (Rhyader NE)
Open, but there were sheep feeders along it last time I looked. Not a very interesting road.
And to be honest, should we be giving full MR's on an open web site?
Water Breaks It's Neck and Moelfre City both have TRO's.

You may be right or maybe wrong but to be honest I reckon the scroats that'll wreck the lanes are probably not intelligent enough to know what map reading is - let alone applying MR's to the map or from the map to the ground

Indeed Graham. Without NGR/MR/references there wouldn't be a way to differentiate some of these lanes would there? I guess I could have used a 4 figure grid reference or even less but I felt I'd cut and copy the full list that I'm using in the plan.
I was aware that Monks Trod was off limits, as well as the road between the Reservoir and that road, but tbh we've always (as a local group) treated that as a dead end road anyway and not done the dodgy bits.
Yes, we're aware of the weather. It is one of those things we have to deal with but we'll still try but know our limitations.
Thank you for the update on the above lane that you said was in a sensitive area. On the 2nd day we'd be working our way back to the Midlands anyway, so we'll see how the plans for that pan out.

No problem.
Have you realised that there is an ORPA not far from the northern end of the St Harmon lane, that cuts back south, past Castell Garn?

Ahh no, I had not spotted that. Thanks I shall add it to the list.
I've done a fair bit where I can of prep and there will be a lot more lanes than we will get done because if we can't do it without the diffs locked then we'd turn back...
You can see how this is going to work with SF can't you Hopefully the Volvo C303 motorhome with us will be a nice solid anchor at the back for when we have to back out...

Please watch the river levels on SF.
We've had a lot of rain lately!!
Beware if you are going into Nant Yr Arian, as lots of TRO's due to a mass felling operation following an outbreak of Larch Die-back disease.

Nope. We're not going that far north. We're based around the Builth area for those two days and the list I posted was what was mostly planned for. Not that much considering.
During summer we'd try and get more in
But saying that, the cottages we're stopping at have hot tubs too so its a bit of a toss up of more laning of a day or back to a relaxing hot tub under the starts talking about it....
At least the alcohol would have more effect in the hot tubs

Right. Well. An update, of sorts. Llanigraham; I've still to sort out that other list to you
Anyway. We completed /some/ of the lanes then it was discovered (thanks to my navigation skills) that the group hadn't seen Elan Valley during the day and it was a particularly fine day too, so we didn't do much on the Sunday.
On the Saturday we found that Strata Florida had a height limit. There was a tree down at the northern end after most of the rivers and so the taller vehicle we had with us had to find another way out.
The river levels weren't too bad and Xamtex in his 2wd Freelander managed to complete the lanes too... He'll be on in a bit to remind everyone of the damage I did to his precious freelander to get it off SF without getting stuck...
The river levels weren't that high actually, which considering the other conditions was surprising. The actual Abergwesyn road was flooded at the bottom end of the Devils Staircase where those small bridges cross the road....
But, all survived... Hopefully next time I'll have my own 4x4 too
