I have two sets of wheels for my GV, one set with standard tyres the other has MT tyres fitted that are about 2.5" larger in diameter. Off the top of my head they are 235/60/16 and 235/70/16 (re-treads++).

If I had to in an 'emergency' have the two different sizes fitted at the same time would this be legal? that is two standard size and two of the muds on at the same time. Obviously keeping the same sizes on the same axle...

thanks

Many years ago I had a VW Beetle Baja Bug with 31" rear tyres and 28" fronts and no problems. Porsches and other sports cars also had different width tyres front from back.

I would suggest that such a difference may cause a problem with your drivetrain unless you have unlockable front hubs

Yeah looking around on the internet there is a lot of mention of hotrods/sports cars/large execs) having different sizes on - not sure PC plod would take that in my defence though. They are all designed to take the different sizes as 'standard'...

MOT book as far as I've read requires same size on the same axle, which is fine.

I'll keep looking.

Can't see you would have a legal problem with a pair of 235/70's on the rear and a pair of 235/60's on the front. What it would handle like with that mixture on might be something else.

PS Don't run it in anything other 2 wd.
