Twisted Evil

I have phoned the number on the reminder about 8 times since receiving it in November and every time, after entering the number, I am told my call cannot be taken try again another time...

Argh. I'll try online next! Twisted Evil

If it won't be accepted by phone then it definitely won't be on line - I had to speak to someone to sort this problem (it turned out I was using the number off an old V5)

If the isn't an option to speak to an operator with the auto telephone system try pressing the same number repeatedly or numbers that aren't listed on the system - you will usually get a real person

Do be careful that one of lovely £80 "fines" from the DVLA doesn't drop through your door shortly for failing to renew / declare SORN.

PLEASE NOTE - DVLA incompetence or fault is not a valid reason for not having to pay the fine.

Hi Folks , HNY , on this topic of SORN , I have been trying to re SORN my old Range Rover for the last week , normaly I just do it on line , however it just refuses to go any further than the logging od the 16 digit number , I have tried phoning but am just on a waiting list .

Tried again tonight , and got as far as previous then next page says there is a £60 fee to SORN ,

I may have missed this along the line somewhere or on here ,

SO , any help welcome , thanks in advance Gawxo.

Big changes coming on October 2014 for private Vehicle sellers.

As i read it,
You will not be able to sell a car with current VED on it, (Tax Disc.)
you have to claim a refund,
&
The new Owner/Registered Keeper must apply for the new VED.
Due to the Paper Tax Discs going they say.

Lets hope they have the DVLA all sorted out by then.

I see the article has come from the AA and not .gov

Look into it and you'll find the idea very flawed e.g. if the buyer/seller has internet access to cancel/buy road tax - they also have internet access to check how much tax there is remaining on the car... most cars are sold/bought privately in the evening or at weekends when post offices are closed...

"as i read it."

No need to look into it really, when there are official statements and rules in place,
i personally will just go with the flow.

The system has always been flawed, hopefully soon they can fix it.
But they need IT sorted out properly, and Call Handlers to get their act together.

phone lines and Online from Scotland must just work well, or i am just lucky.
I will be sorry to no longer have the wonderful Service of the Dundee DVLA office if it goes,
great staff and great service.

Can't find any George - only AA blurb - care to link to Official statements?

May be a mis-interpretation of this https://www.gov.uk/government/news/modernising-dvla-services-update or a knee jerk reaction to this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25223631

and back on topic

Quote:
The changes, which come into force from next Monday also mean that motorists will only need to tell DVLA once when they declare their vehicle ‘off the road’.

Currently, motorists who make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) have to renew their SORN every year. Last year, around 4 million ‘SORNs’ were made, with over 1 million of those repeat renewals.

The DVLA said: ‘We’re also getting rid of the need to tell DVLA that your vehicle is off the road every year. Currently, if you declare SORN that only lasts 12 months and then you have to tell us again. The changes mean that when you tell us it’s SORN once, that’s it until you tax it, sell it or scrap it.’

"when there are official statements and rules in place".

Not really possible to 'link' to any if they are not yet published. Idea
That is where the 'when there are' bit is relevant.

Thanks guys for the info , I think you could well be right Ian , I tried twice to get a phone contact but again in a Q ,

Finaly I tried the vehicle search and said currently SORNed , but is this to end of Jan??

I then tried without the 16 digit in case it was wrong, using the Reg and V5 number , result came up as already sorned ?? .

Hope Ian is correct , just be peace of mind to know for sure ,

George , think you too were correct in I was directed to a assist site with asking for a £60 admin fee ,

I am reluctant to take the £200 offered by a scrao firm as the motor has only 40k on it , plud I payed more than £200 for the hi ratio transfer gears , see what developes , Cheers JP.

DVLA Online really is messing up, i have Taxed 2 cars today,
on Payment the site has frozen, once just on Confirming and going to be bank check.
So i waited a a few minutes, no confirmation or the likes so stopped and aborted i thought, and the Email arrived confirming applied for.
Money not available on at my bank so processed.

So did the second one a while ago, the site froze as soon as i pressed confirmed on the payment.
Waited 5 minutes, unable to get back, site frozen,
again thats gone through and confirmation Email arrived.

No final page came up either time, no customer survey or the likes.

A friend has just been caught out, he normally goes to the Post Office.
But has been on DVLA Direct before checking Vehicle Information.
Did it on his phone, got the Email Conformation & received the new disc.

Then spotted the extra £40 debited from using his card.
Still does not believe me the Bank, DVLA, Trading Standards, Police or Government are interested,
He agreed to use their services.

OBVIOUSLY DO NOT USE THIS TO BUY YOUR VED ONLINE.
http://taxdisc-direct.co.uk
I see how he missed the top right while using a phone.

There was something about that on the radio a few years ago, they couldn't stop it as it was offering a service legally.

Hi,

Bloke in pub offers to tax your car for half usual amount, just needs cash and documents. Next day he gives you a genuine tax disc, and returns documents. Collects a few more punters, builds a thriving business ... then is never seen again.

At which point DVLA take action against all the bouncing cheques.
