Hi,

It might sound a bit crazy, but a long time ago I saw online a device which was mounted in front of the roller guides which tensioned the winch cable in order to prevent incorrect spooling. I don't remember the name but I am looking for one of those. Any hints?

Thanks!

I don't know if David has any ally ones left, but I've got the blanks that made the steel drop-pin-fairlead in this thread. They are cut and bent and need a de-bur + welding.

Great idea, simple and effective. Definition of genius. I plan to use wire cable, but I guess it could still work. Unfortunately I won't be able to drop by to see it. I am in Romania so could you please post a few pics with how the system is built so that I can try and replicate it?

Happy New Year!

Adrian

Steel rope would badly damage the ally sliding-fairlead, but the drop-pin-fairlead would be okay. Also, one-off aluminium cnc machining jobs are expensive, which is why we did more than 10.
The steel one is a simple lazer cut part from 6mm steel sheet. 6 presses in a press-brake and its ready to de-bur and weld. The original fairlead fits inside and the standard tractor 1" steel pins you need to buy will be okay with steel rope. (as long as you don't pull hard at right angles).
The drop pin fairlead was designed to be a cheap way of working with flat strap. You move the pins around to force the rope onto different pats of the drum.

To make one it is really just 6mm channel with 1" holes drilled in for the pins and a letter-box sized hole to fit the fairlead.

Thanks! I am thinking about using the roller fairlead instead of the rope one and making a bigger steel frame, with drop pins, in order to accomodate it. Thanks for the tip, it's a great idea!!!
