Hi folks, this could be really stupid idea but as I got nothing else to to apart from dream up crazy ideas while my back sorts itself out I thought I would pop the question out there.

Vauxhall SPAM 2.5 v6 engine with the box to match ( it's a rwd box) with sj t box with the crawler gear set . Then fitting Landy axles, I know the axles are not great but can be made stronger with Ashcroft internals,

it's a bit of an odd one but would this be a good mash of parts to maybe comp with?

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Very Happy Very Happy

Vauxhall Carlton engines were being fitted to Jimnys.
Darren was putting them into Jimny Bandits.

I had one all installed in Jimny, with its Autobox.
Problem came with the wiring, Key, Inhibitor etc, and it got taken out
& got a Ignis Engine installed instead.

Carlton engines are getting harder to find but the omegas are to a penny , found a few with less the 80k on the clock for under £500! I just don't know enough about the engines and if they would be suitable really, they also have the added bonus of having a rwd gearbox to help matters.

no not really, you can make any engine fit any car, given the time and effort or pennies to spend on it..

the thing that makes zooks so good is that they are light, if the engine doesnt weigh too much then go for it, there are, however, other more viable alternatives, for example the 1.8 belano engine if you can get hold of one, 1.9 diesel conversions and 1.7 diesel conversions, with the carlton gearboxes.

that is by no means to say it cannot be done, i would like to see it.. 3.2v6 please lol

I did the Carlton conversion in to sj & what I think makes it a good conversion is the gearbox is very short.
Assuming that the SPAM box is short coupled to as short a centre prop as you can make & v6 engine being short (only 3 cyl long), means the engine can sit further back behind the front axle to help offset some of the unwanted nose weight.

We'll I don't think there is much in weights between a diesel and a v6 really as is an alloy engine from the research I've done but please correct me if I am wrong, SPAM box is about the same as the Carlton , I was thinking of just dropping the whole lot in so it keeps thing simple as far as mating odd boxes and clutches go. The only thing that concerns me is the cambelt, is it covered? Will it keep mud and crap out ? Thanks for the replies .

try to get the whole loom if you can, i am not sure if the SPAM/vauxhall engines come with a seperate look for the ECU and engine..

either way the whole loom would make it much more easy

I am going to buy the whole car , plan being I should have everything I need. There cheap enough as not a lot of people want them being a v6 and not that great on fuel , with the cost of petrol etc . Weigh the rest in after I guess
