Hello all, any body know theyre way around toyota electrics?
ive got a toyota aygo engine that i need to get running, all ive got is a bare engine at the mo, so obviously need to get starter and alternator, exhuast and intake, not so worried about that stuff, but i need to know how to get it to run? if i get an ecu is it just a case of getting ower into the ecu, then get the engine turning over and itll start and run?
any help please!!

Virtually impossible. The ECU will only start the engine from a coded key plus you need other bits and bobs. (Simple explanation.)
You'd be better off looking at MegaSquirt.

From what i understand the key is coded to an immobiliser module, which is behind the speedo, rather than the ECU, which made me wonder if the ECU could be powered up on its own?

The key transmits its code to both the immobilser and the ECU. Both have to confirm the code is right before anything happens.

Also depending on the options on the source car the ECU won't enable the engine without the BCM, CCM and possibly other modules.
As I said you could tie yourself up in knots for months trying to get the thing to go which is why I said look at MegaSquirt.

i believe an aygo is also fly by wire which means you need all the accelerator pedal etc from the donor car.
Either use megajolt and make a carb setup for it or find an alternative ecu setup (megasquirt/omex etc)

the mega jolt with a carb set up i reacon would be within my technical leval, but the aygo is only three cyclinders isnt that going to be an issue?

I am still on the look out for an affordable Written off iQ that will donate its Engine for a road legal Buggy.
But it is a iQ 1.0 3 Cylinder Multidrive (CVT) i am after, Must be with the complete car. Just to simplify things.
What ever can be salvaged will be and used, or replacement drivet rain parts sourced. Very good steering, brakes etc on them.
A bit much in the electrics with steering and brakes though with the ECU, which has a memory that is a problem for Remapping.
Euro 5 model after Dec 2010 i am after.

No sadly.
Which is why i only ever take a complete vehicle when wanting an engine-box.
Then use the skills of a very good Auto Spark, electricity is all magic to me.

I have wired a couple of pd130 engines up which are the vw tdi. The biggest trouble is the CAN system that most modern day cars use. Everything talks to each other digitally and removing stuff from the system (even removing the stereo and fitting aftermarket ones) throws up error codes.
couple that with (as already stated) the immobili
Megajolt would be able to run a 3cyl engine easily. Then you just use one less carb if your gonna use bike carbs.

i think i need to rethink my choice of donor, like scrunt says getting hold of a complete running vehicle means at least i know ive got all the components to make it run, dont think ill be able to afford something as modern as an aygo but something will turn up im sure

Accident Damaged but running M/Cycles are so much simpler.
Easy to mount, maybe even using part of what it is already mounted in.
Chain or Shaft drive.
Nice Ignition all compact & waterproof,
& Exhausts suited to compactness & maybe without quite the same sensor hassles of Euro & 5 Emission cars.
