Hi, This is my first post. Have searched to see if anybody else has used this as a fix but no luck. My freelander auto td4, 51 plate after about two and a half hours of towing my caravan will not change into top after a hill and just sits at 3000 revs, I have to put her into top using the tiptronic. If I park up for an hour she runs perfect until she's been towing for another two and a half hours, this problem does not happen solo. I read the write up for this Lucas Transmission Fix and it was strongly recommended for towing vehicles. So has anybody used this stuff, and did they just put it in the gearbox or do you need to drain off some fluid then add. Thanks for any info. Regards DAF 3600

As I replied elsewhere, are you sure that when you last had it serviced they put the correct fluid into the Jatco box?

And beware taking oil out of the Jatco; it is very easy to undo the wrong, what appears to be a drain plug, and totally ruin the box!

Work was carried out by Independent Landrover Services at Preston, they only work on landrovers, so I am confident right spec of oil was used.

I'd check!
Mistakes happen and the Jatco box is quite specific about what fluid needs to be used.

It sounds like overly hot oil, coupled with the natural viscosity reduction that happens when oil is churned for a few hours. Looking about the net, it looks like the auto box oil is cooled by the engines water, so does the engine get hot climbing hills? Does the rad look in good condition?

The auto box has it's own cooler, the temp gauge never moves off normal during towing uphills or any other time.

I still suspect that the wrong fluid has been put in. Wouldn't be the first time.
