As for marshalls.
Well none are now needed at the stage start or finish. |
Copy of the Blue Book can be found here http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?t=61933 I suggest you read the specific regs relating to rallies!

I think I know the blue book well enough for RAC MSA rallys.
However the treasure hunt that's being talked about on here is an international event run under the Yellow book.
One of the differences being that under the Blue book all rallys are subject to a 30MPH restriction. Under the Yellow book that is 40MPH.
As for rallys. I competed enough. HAVE ANY OF YOU COMPETED?
Oh yes. Sorry but slow road rallys with average speeds over selectivs that would make FISA and the FIA worry.
A good book for you all to read. If you will pay the price, is "do You Have To Drive Like That by Mick Briant.
194 miles. Please don't make me laugh. 194 miles. I would do over 200 miles in a night on a road rally. With a NAVIGATOR, not a co driver, one who could read an OS map and call the road to you.
A pity the RAC MSA allowed road rallys to kill themselves.
Would you like to see what you got as a timekeeper on the proper RAC rally that covered the country ? Or wouldn't you know a Wharton ?
I've actually done a passage check on the RAC at Stang by myself on an RAC rally.
194 miles. Please I can't stop laughing.

Looks like a Hall Trophy picture with the frosted grass
Kaydale Mill. Wakefield and Dist Motor Club Calderford Trophy.
Sorry you'll have to click on the pics as they're not coming up right.
They're the only two pics I have on the computer.

Can I ask where you got those speed from?
Are they maximum speeds or average speeds?

Average speeds.
And yes Mike I do know what a Wharton is, especially as I was a registered Rally Timekeeper at one time. Did many RAC Rallies as well as the Scottish and the Welsh on many occasions, as well as many "club" rallies. Now I prefer to keep warm and dry most of the time doing Radio and Safety.
What happened in the past has gone and it is pointless continually bleating about it. The manufacturers didn't want 4 days of continuous competition and if the FIA hadn't changed the format then it would have died. It's called progress so tough! This calling the Event a "treasure hunt" is boring and childish.

Progress killed my sport.
194 miles. No service required then ?
Are you going to the rally forum at Telford ?

It was actually run under MSA Permit Number 78533 and therefore subject to the rules of the Blue Book.
However I assume you're gripe is to do with the length of the event and has nothing to do with the regulations.

So it wasn't an international event ?
Yes I feel that a manufacturer should be able to put a car together for that mileage and last that distance without the need for service. Disasters aside.
I remember doing a single venue airfield event years ago. You know do the stage then return to car park. You could tell the road rally boys. They came in after the stage, Parked up and had tea or coffee. The stage boys would be taking allsorts of things apart.
When I was thinking of doing continatal events, the comments to me were. "No problem on the stages, it's the road sections you'll drop time on, however you're used to building a road rally car, therefor you can skip service" Unfortunately I never got that oportunity.
The same as I didn't get to do the Welsh Motoring News events.
Nobody got a copy of Night Moves ???

There were 2 events, the International, which was run under FIA Yellow Book Regs, and the 2 or 3 day National event which was run under MSA Blue Book Regs, subject to a few minor changes to bring it in line with the FIA (eg Yellow flags).
The Permit still has to be issued under the Road & Trials Regulations for the UK, even if the FIA Regs are being used.
International had remote servicing after each group of stages. Nationals weren't supposed to, but..................
Would have liked to go to the Telford Rally Forum, but I'm working.

Thanks how I expected the event to run
BUT. Yes I've seen both SAAB and Lancia parked quietly in laybys near Dalby. Lancia would help FIAT and vice versa.
We're going to Telford because part of history of motor sport in England and Wales. Having done some of those events it'll bring back memories. My biggest regret is that I never managed to get to Wales for a MN event
Do you know any nice camp sites in the Telford area. Well be taking the Square-Stream for at least the weekend.

Sorry Mike, don't know any sites around there, but a look at the UKcampsites website should find a few. There are certainly plenty around Iron Bridge.
Have a good evening.

I miss club level road rally's and 12cars
They where great fun but an average of 30mph in Devon and Cornwall lanes open to the public means you have to crack on...
Can't find the picture power sliding through a 90 right GW junction!
The most fun car I ever used was a bog standard 1300 Mk2 escort- had to drive it flat out all night!

Yes me too with restricted events. There is no longer a starter type event for the driver to learn the ropes on...Or the navigator for that matter. Anybody can do the co drivers job.
One day I will let people see the Stocktonian rally paperwork that the CofC's and the Secretary of the Meeting had. 30mph

There are plenty of starter events still being run.
There is a 12 car championship up in the North East, and my Club still run them as do many others.

No more Targa Timing says the RAC MSA.....
The problem I saw with 12 car events is they were only an evening event.....

Sorry, Mike but you really are out of touch.
There are still sections timed to the second on road rallies.

2013 Blue book 7.1.9, 12.1
Targa (or "Lanes") Rallies are one of the fastest growing disciplines in NI, and that's in an area where we have full blown closed road rallies!

Ah yes not on the mainland.
Do you still have "cross road" trials ?
