read the article... they where abandoned as kids here.

They are not asylum seekers.

Actually I can't be bothered putting a full reply.... go read up rather than be taken in by right wing knee jerking press.

Every article I have read says they are failed asylum seekers and currently do not hold UK citizenship so wtf should tax payers foot the bill for this?

Even if we set aside the citizenship issue I fail to see why anyone in care should receive flying lessons at the state's expense. If I had children could I claim for them to get flying lessons so they could "get a job"? CIF.

Also, if they get away with this how much more attractive will this make the UK to illegal immigrants?

Bring your kids over here illegally, dump them in care and they're set for life.

Welcome to handout Britain.

You know what? I would have loved to have been a pilot. My parents gave me the best education they could afford but it didn't stretch to flying lessons.

If he wants to be a pilot go and get a proper job, save the money, pay for the lessons himself and then apply for a job with an airline. Friend of mine is a pilot with BA and that's how how had to do it.

And as a brit, if you want to get qualifications you can do and a student load will cover them.

These guys are not eligible for a student loan and the council accepted parental responsibility of the kids, who have applied for citizenship and when granted will be moving the cost over to a loan, as the article says.

All due respect to the kids, given the horrific hardship they've been through in life (reading the article) they are getting on and trying to better them selves, and good on to the council who have done what they can to assist, even through the BS griping of others out there.

And IMO the article is wrong. THEY are not failed asylum seekers, the parents and family was in 2004. They would have been 12 at the time, and I'm pretty sure a 12 year old can't apply for asylum. Also learning to fly in 80 hours? What license is that? A PPL can be had in under 40 hours. I'm not sure about commercial, but I'd have though more than 80?

A UK citizen can get the education they want with a loan which they have to pay back (if they earn enough). This is like me taking the government to court as I want to be trained as a doctor for free but they're only offering me GCSEs. It makes no sense.

The license they will get for £10k will be no use in terms of employment. There is no work for someone who can only fly a 1970's 2 seat Cessna in the daylight in good weather. You have to get a private pilots license, then night rating, conversions to every plate you want to fly, conversions to different number and type of engines, then if you want to go commercial it's back to school. My brother had a PPL and went for commercial over 10 years ago, at that cost over £30k then. The flying side he was a natural at, he got his PPL at 16 but he couldn't do the class room bit, the level of hydraulics and electronics you had to know were just too much for him.

If the family claimed asylum then surely they're all asylum seekers? I assume none of them as allowed to work and the welfare they are given is based on the size of the family? Maybe the parents dumped them on purpose in the hope they would be kept here and given a better life before the rest of the family were shipped home?

I'm glad I read the whole thread.

I started off thinking, fair enough have some education as he's no more likely to **** it away than those born here but flying lessons? Get an apprenticeship and be a builder.

Now I think, he's simply a criminal (like so many others) and he should stay here and work off his debt to the UK somehow

Sure, that would also make him 30 now? Being that the asylum request was made in 2004. Sure looks young for a 30 year old to me.

It was the mail on Sunday which originally made the claims, another well renound accurate source of information.

Strangely the court records from the Newcastle council v Yonas Admasu Kebede make no reference to him lying about his age.

But, as above, if it is all true then it's fraud. Simple as.
