Hi guys, I know this has been done to death but I'm just not finding the problem.
I have a 1995 Diso 300tdi the batt is dieing over night. it will somtimes have enough life to start just but other times it won't.
I've fitted a spider bypass, taken off and cleaned the main two earth strapes batt neg to chassi and starter motor earth. I've taken all the fuses out and returned them 1 by 1 I've taken the alternator off the car but still I'm loseing power.
Any thoughts on what it could be.
Thanks
Gary

Have the battery drop tested at your local crusty backstreet garage. Kwikfit don't have the equipment.

Whereabouts in Italy are you? I was out there for 6 1/2 years and might be able to help...
...there are some good ones - its just knowing where they are...
...if not I can ask a friend

I agree with early post , only a drop tester will confirm batt condition . How old is the battery , is it maintain ex free, or top up , could check cells .if your in the sticks you could rig up a battery isolator ,

Bit further North than I was (Naples) as I could have given you the name of a rather good garage (so immaculate that you could eat your dinner off the floor and they loved working on my 90 when not dealing with RRs! - and they all wore LR overalls too - oddly).
Will ask around my contacts out there.

I would have thought that any small old village garage would have a drop tester, Italy or not.
They also aren't that expensive to buy second hand
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Durite-drop-battery-t...sh=item1e821dc7ce
but you better have a decent sized pair of balls the first time you use one.

Diode gone in alternator? Check for current drain between brown wire and alternator with everything else turned off. Can get diode pack repacements here.

That's a fair call - simple (ie easy shippable parts) can be sorted but then agian nowadays most places will post anywhere (not like in my day (well 2 years ago!)

Hi,
After you've checked all the usual stuff like stuck relays etc. there's another one that you won't find easily and it is - a partial short between the battery poles caused by dust and water! Sometimes you will find it down the side of the battery from the positive terminal to the chassis. Cure: take the battery off and give it a hot water clean and DRY it off good.
It's an odd one this is because the battery doesn't look 'wrong' but it is. You can throw a bucket of water over a typical battery and not suffer from this problem because the water should naturally pool into droplets and therefore a circuit is not formed because they are not touching each other. Good luck.
