I've a BT email account that I use on Outlook 2007 - I had a few issues so tried to delet the account to start again. As have done in the past.

However, rather than total remove the account it has called the previous set up " Personal Files". Old stuff is still there but nothing new is coming in. When I went into Account Settings - email accounts, there wasn't anything there. ---think I hit the keyboard delete key, rather than the remove icon to try and get rid of the email account.

So I did did the New icon and followed it through.

But now I still have the old set up that doesn't receive, but all my saved sent goes to that one. The new one receives and sents ok but it is a pain and looks a mess.

Does that make sense?

Is there an easy way to get rid of all email accounts / data and start from scratch again. Or go back to just one "account".

Basically have it so it just uses the default Outlook account

Google it, but it's after you show hidden files. User, Microsoft, outlook, somewhere in there.

You need to remove the hidden files for preferences and mail folders though

It does sound like you're doing a bodge fix for something thorough. What's the original reason you has to do this?

tried googling it and it made no sense.

It kept coming up with a password pop up - despite correct password & save password ticked. All the info said remove accounts and start again. Did that last time and worked fine.

This time I messed up and used the keyboard delete key to remove the email address that was showing in Account Settings - Email, rather than the remove icon.

I think the files are there but not the deliver address --- despite using the add icon and putting the same address in.

It could be its changed form POP account to IMAP -- seems bT have made some changes

I don't like outlook so I use a different program but it sounds to me like you've setup two mail accounts. You need to edit the one you want to keep and manually enter the bt connection details and delete the others. If you put the same account in twice it will get the emails
Twice. Bt may also restrict what you do it your not connecting to the net through them.

http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/aboutpst.htm

That will solve your problem, but you may also loose all of your emails in the process.

I think you've exaggerated the original problem you've had attempting to delete and re-make, I'd guess that you've a pop account running downloading the emails to your computer and also the 'new' IMAP account also running.

Log into webmail, are ALL the emails you want there? If so, delete all the profiles from outlook, remove the PST files, you'll need to show hidden files in explorer for this.

When you launch outlook again, it should bring up the first time user 'add an email account' screen (if not, just add an account), then create an IMAP account which will leave a copy of all of your emails on the ISP's mail server, but also give you access on all of your devices.

If webmail doesn't have all your emails, use outlook to create an archive. Save this PST file somewhere safe for the time being (desktop?), then delete all of the other profiles using the instructions above. Once you've got your email up and running on IMAP import back in the archive PST file. You'll see all your old emails at the bottom of the bar on the left hand side under a new + called Archive.

FYI, BT haven't just changed from POP to IMAP, they've been using IMAP for at least a decade now.

Google is your friend here, if you don't know how to show hidden files, google, show hidden files windows

If you don't know how to make an archive google how to make an archive outlook 2007.

I re installed Outlook and now I've got a osmapi32.dll incompatible with Outlook error pop up.

I can't see it running a second copy any where or find the file - hidden files should be visible.

In the mean time I've got webmail and thunderbird is working. Main reason for outlook is as it syncs easy with phone.

Hopefully, I've got an unused gmail running that is syncing ok at moment.

Are all my old calendar eateries still likely to be on the computer as .pst files. As my phone has also gone mental and wiped my calendar data - completely unrelated. Probablyfat fingers and lack of sleep on my behalf.
