Viscus fan Fluid replace?

My P38 starts getting hot under heavy load; a suspect the viscus coupling needs servicing.

I have done it before on a Hilux; I am assuming I can crack it open; clean it out and replace with fresh oil in a similar fashion?

I couldn't find what oil the rangie needed. Toyota use 6000cts but I went for 8000cts so the fan provides more cooling. Hiluxs are also bad for overheating.

Tbh they're not that expensive so I would just get a new viscus unit rather than faffing about.

Oh and while your at it if there are any signs that previous owner has stuffed rad weld or similar in it, change the rad and thermostat as well.
Again not expensive.

Before you do all that check the water is circulating correctly.
With care at your own risk :-
From cold remove header tank cap.
In the header tank rim when the cap is removed you will see a small hole on the drivers side wing side.
Start her up and watch that hole for water to start coming out.
If no water after the tank starts to get hot then suspect return pipe is blocked and needs clearing/upgrading to latest type.
WATCH THE WATER TEMPERATURE DO NOT LET IT BOIL AS YOU MAY GET SCALDED AND YOU COULD GET WATER ON YOUR FUSE BOX, neither of which would be recommended.

Cheers for the advice. I was hoping it would be a simple case of changing the fluid rather than buying another but oh well.

Not had chance to go over it with a comb yet.
