If you had about £100-150 to buy some front driving lights what would you get HID or CREE LED? Who's would you get? What experience do you have with different sizes or shapes?
Thanks

HID's have more parts and will go wrong sooner than the LED versions.
I'd say the LED version would be tougher and more durable, therefore more desirable.
Look at what the rest of the world is going with now, seems that LED is the way forward in my mind.
(Of course my truck is nothing but parts to me now so I'll not be worrying about over illumination any time soon )

Have seen some side by side photos and LED are (or were in this case) definitely better than HID
I'd certainly be looking for LED - but knowing the UK and the way sellers load prices for UK vehicles, simply because our trucks are RHD you may be looking at a fair bit more than HID at the moment...

XP's right, it'll cost you double for the same item from the UK versus Aus or US.
Why?
Because you live in the UK that's why! Everything is double the cost here! I'd leave if I could afford to!

Cost five times as much to leave the UK than to come in...
In fact - if you have the right face you can get into, and stay in, the UK for free!

Legally hid need to be able to self level either in the lamp or via the suspension. Led do not need to do so. Depending on what truck you have will likely restrict what you can get. Just fitting a replacement element in led will not work as the beam pattern will be off for the mot to be effective you need full units like the j w speaker or nolden offerings for defender's. Hth.

Speaker is in the US and Nolden are German - both working in countries where LHD prevails, and that, for us, may be a problem. I don't know how easy it is to make a light for RHD compared to LHD but no doubt, as I said above, there will be a surcharge for doing so.
I've seen pictures showing the difference between LED and both HID and standard headlights and the amount of clarity and illumination with the LED is phenomenal. It would be well worth changing to if you do a lot of off-road driving at night

if they're driving lights, and not headlights, then the HID rules are not applicable, even when used on road.

Ah but LED are better than HID with a better light pattern, stronger light and lower power draw - it's just finding a RHD type headlight - although you could use LED driving lights I suppose....
