Hi,

When I wasa lad, just out of short trousers, I used to gave an air rifle thingy, apparently a BSA Improved Model D. 177, under-barrel lever, rotating breech.

My SiL introduced my grandson to the local airgun club, where he seems to have found a hobby. Then SiL "went forth and multiplied" with a sportier model, leaving grandson to his own devices ... but no gun.

Hopefully, we will be moving nearer to daughter, to fulfill our grandparent obligations, and no doubt I will have to take the sprog shooting.Just standing around picking my nose will be boring, so I'm wondering about buying something to keep me busy.

I see little fun in using a scope against a target close enough to chuck a house brick at, and all this palarva with gas is too hi-tech for me. So what are my chances of finding, and affording an air rifle that will remind me of my formative years?

No hurry, as we have been told that we ain't entitled to a morgage ... too old. We would normally be able to buy a house without selling this one first ... big deposit, and £300 a month, hands in pocket whistling. Not at 74 you can't. So have to sell present house, before doing anything.

Try a buy to rent mortgage over 10-25 years interest only - pay it off when you sell your present house... Wink

No shortage of suitable New, Used, Modern or older Air Rifles at all price points. (Sportmarketing ot Hatsan for much cheapness.)
The worlds your Oyster.
Look Online buy at a Gunshop.
http://www.airrifleshop.co.uk/airrifles.htm

& a Google showed that someone had for sale a 1913-14 BSA Improved Model D for sale at £175. (Sold)
Today there is a BSA Improved Model D .177 for sale @ £295

re House,
Why not rent out yours and then rent a property where you want to go.
Maybe you can get some rental income/profit & without paying tax if the areas and rental prices match the move you want to do.

If the Club is anything like mine there will always be members selling guns as they upgrade/change. Might be worth a visit to the Club and get a feel for it first.

Hi,

Thanks for replies. Yikes, my gun was 40 years old when I had it.... and it cost Dad £5 ... and then 7/6d for a window.

I looked at the guns for sale. Yikes again. Several multiples of what I was hoping to pay. But it will happen, just not this week.

£200 would just about finish my 1959 Land Rover project (VED exempt and MOT exempt) all except the lights. She has only done <200 miles since her last MOT .... but her last MOT was almost 40 years ago.

I suggested "Rent to Buy", but SWMBO is against the idea .... too much bad press.

Thanks again

My suggestion was Rent yours out
& Rent the other you go to,
no sale. no purchase, less legal fees. Leases & inventories,
You get the tenant you want in,
you also get the option to move from the place you go to if required.
But does involve continuing to travel back and fore on occasions.

But i understand if that does not take your or SWMBO's fancy.

Good crowd, lots of help.
Clubs are a mixed bag, I left one as lets say it didn't meet my expectations.
I did meet some very nice people though.
As spanner man says the Chinese do some good value stuff.
I had a Air arms S400 1.77 with a scope whose details escape me it was excellent cost about £500 though but once we hit the boredom factor we sold it for our money back
