Has someone just removed the post about cheap tyres? Not sure I understand why, I did post a brand and a price but not for my gain just thought it was in people's interest.

As you stated in your post, the forum has rules regarding advertising

Ok no problem but can you tell me what the difference between what I did and the advert that has been placed in the 285 75 16 on a disco thread. Other than that's an actual link to a branded website featuring a listed stock item that's for sale and I mentioned some tyres I had heard about that were cheap.

Ta

There is no difference which is why both your ads were removed

Telling the membership that there are cheap offers around is NOT advertising, providing of course, you don't have a vested interest in the offered profit.

Removing such posts is a dis-service to the membership... However seeing that there has been such a decline in the active membership of Difflock - I don't suppose it really matters Rolling Eyes

So if I'm just telling people about a cheap offer that I don't have a vested interest in that wouldn't be advertising?

What I'm saying is that it shouldn't be classed as advertising, but this is Diffflock with it's many rules that have killed it's community spirit just so the owner(s) can milk unsuspecting companies for their advertising fees.

Don't expect any changes with the current owners!

its not the Mods, it is the site owners who insist no links etc. I am all for everyone getting discounts etc especially if the goods on offer are not sold by the hosting website. I would have thought promoting this site on others would have bought more revenue in as it would reach a wider audience. BUT we dont pay the bills and as a result, you, I and everyone else have to follow the set rules laid down by the owners.....sorry.

Best wishes

Colin.

I appreciate all that you say, but the other thread with an actual link is still on despite it not being allowed to advertise.

Sorry but one rule for all should be applied.

Espcially as the shop has been down for god knows how many weeks now so we can buy from them easiley and not allowed to see where else to buy? Is the site being killed for a reason?

geeze its like being back at school.
Is this really the most important thing in peoples lives? seriously, are people really that upset?
I have had loads of posts deleted without explaination but does it bother me? at the time yes but then I realise that there are lots more important things in life.

Is the forum being killed for a reason? Hhmmmm let me think, would No suprise you? or was it just a silly statement for effect.
I am fed up to the back teeth with the purile comments and pettyness from some on this forum. None of you are being forced to be here, or perhaps there is some attraction in just posting negative comments.

A post was quarrantined, it was a link to another business.
The other link in the existing post has the tech spec on the wheel that is relevent to the question asked. I am guessing that is why that one has been left and the other was deleted. I dont know as I didnt do it.

I have seen a link to the freewheeling hubs with a comment such as 'before the Difflock hit squad delete it' yep that helps massively.

Dont forget, most of the time it is you lot, the forum users who report the posts to be deleted. But no, the mods get the blame every time.

Whilst some things have changed here...

...as things always will...

...the Mods have the hardest job of all to ....

...especially as they are volunteers who believe the value of this forum...

...and Mod out of the goodness of their hearts and in their own free time...

...I may not agree with every decision they are required to take...

...but I will support them in everything they have to do.

Here's a thing .... when does a link to a product become advertising?

Example 1
someone's freewheeling hub disintegrates and they need help finding spares. Various people helpfully post links to online shops where it can be bought. This is not advertising.

Example 2
Someone posts "my car/tyres/cuddly toy is up in the classifieds, please take a look. This is advertising your advert and simply clutters up the forums so we remove it.

Example 3
Someone hears that a shop has a super special offer and wants to keep it in the Difflock crowd so posts information and possibly a link. This is a tough one and is the type we struggle with most. The OP is trying to help, the vendor is offering a good deal but if it were Dewalt or Jewson or B&Q we would have less of a problem than with "Jimmy at Isle of Skye Rustbuckets" who might otherwise advertise here.

It's not easy but It's made harder by people taking the huff Rolling Eyes

I only said someone I knew had a really good deal on some tyres. There was no link to his business site or the manufacturer's site just a "he's got some of these at this much" type thread. Just trying to be helpful didn't mean any harm.

Granted, I wish all these were more clear cut but sometimes we err on the side of the side of 'caution'.

no offence was meant, or is ever meant by Mods moving or deleting threads. It's not personal Wink
