Hi
Still having a starting problem with my Xj diesel. this time I think its the
ignition switch, everything lights up OK but the starter doesn't engage until I
wiggle the Keys. Would like to bypass the start part of the switch with a
simple push button. but don't know which colour the wires are I need to put
a switch in... can anyone help?
Cheers Yoss.

My Wiring diagram shows pink/black being 12v from battery and yellow being start wire.

Colours stated above are correct but it could be the ignition switch actuator pin causing the fault. If you remove the ignition switch you should be able to see if the pin is damaged. Needs a security torx to remove it, might be t15 or t20 not sure.
And just in case it is broken...
If it is the pin and it fails completely you wouldn't even be able to turn the ignition on, in which case the start button would be no use. The part can be got for about £45 including shipping and VAT from the US.

Hi
Well, took the switch apart today, the actuator pin looked good.
removed the switch and sprayed it with contact cleaner and added a push
switch as well, so all is good at the moment!. Thats the trouble with
intermittent faults!!! probably turn out to be the starter motor. but its to cold
to get underneath the thing. Thank for help. Yoss

That sounds more like a loose connection somewhere. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and shiny on the contact surfaces and fasten them back tight. Check the earth wires are not loose at the engine/chassis mounts too, you may want to try cleaning them up too. Start with that anyway as it's free and see if things improve.
