|

Hi...I've got a 1991 Defender 90 200tdi. The steering box is leaking. Have ordered a replacement set of seals. Question is: what oil/lubricant should I be using for the steering box?
Thanks

ATF or pas fluid.
Getting the drop arm off is usually a pig and the shafts are sometimes worn so sometimes nee seals dont work. You really need a 2 legged hydraulic puller. Mine was leaking like crazy so I stuck some wynns leak fix in as a temporary measure and it worked a treat. I've got a full seal kit and two spare boxes on the shelf but haven't had a need to fit them yet!

Mine's for MOT on Monday and is leaking badly. I'm going to stick some stop leak in mine untril I can get my hands on a second hand box. Seal replacement is too much hassle.

Did mine a couple of months ago and it was a pig.
The drop arm was the worst part.. The only advice I could give you is get it as clean as pos before putting in new seals.
I put ATF into mine........GOOD LUCK
