I've been offered a perkins 6354 engine with an adaptor plate to fit the mogs transmision has any one heard of this being done before and what were the results I'm just woundeing as it is a non turbo engine,
Also dose anyone no if you can still get hold of the OM 617 conversion bell housing as this is also a option due to there being two for sale at the moment.
Cheers
Gary

Not even an option in my opinion. That engine is way to big and heavy. There is a guy near me that tried to fit one and had to remove one of the chassis crossmembers to get it to fit. In my book that is a no-no Shocked
That same guy is selling the engine on Ebay at the moment.
Try looking for an Iveco engine and do the same conversion that Turnip did.

O.k then I think thats a no no then I would like to do what turnip done and as I'm in italy at the moment it would be easy to source the engine and parts but I just don't think I have the skill and the know how to do his conversion but then agian It's just a lerning curve and at least I would have some one to ask.

Interesting that engine on the bay.....it is totally different to mine, my turbo is tucked low down and in tight - dont know what that one is? Does anyone know why my photos have been removed??
I still have them if anyone wants to go that route?

The engine I used was an Iveco 8140.47 from a Ducato van - similar in a Peugeot and Citroen apparently - I will try and attach some pics showing it mated to the Mog gearbox adaptor - bear in mind that my bodywork is non standard - but the standard Mog seems to have more room!

I used the gearbox housing of the Ducato van to make an adaptor between Mog trans and Iveco engine and carried out all the work in a field with no mains electricity - engine swap by tractor and loader!
The only techy bit was a centralising spigot from the Mog engine plate and a special extended input shaft which used a Mog clutch plate centre to adapt to the Ducato gearbox shaft.

I have done the m130 swap and run it on straight LPG works fine and the increase in HP is great there is a few things with the swap like having to get new fly wheel turned up ect but there is plenty of information on the net about the swap just google m130 swap to unimog 404

Putting in big Lumps like the Perkins 6 have even been done to LWB Landrovers...but what a beast? why do that? it would rip the diffs out and strip the gearbox with all that torque! and nothing much else? Maybe it would have been OK in a 404, but so much engineering to get it right.....you,d have to think about the re-distribution of weight (it is a heavy lump)....you could just throw one in and hope for the best, but you would still be left wanting.....even after having to remount the cab to clear it.

I have a T6-354 in my boat. Turbocharged and intercooled, it's rated for 165HP. Redline seems to be about 2400RPM. Mine is a reverse rotation engine -- came out of a twin engine boat. That might be an unpleasant surprise after going to all the trouble of squeezing it into a Unimog. You can get Perkins info here: <http>.

hi not sure what mog it is but years ago I had a 404 whith a perkins 6354 and it had a top speed of exactly 30 whole mph, so get a mate with the same mog you have and check engine rpm against road speed then find out how fast the 6354 you are using can run, otherwise it could be a little disappointing, OH and perkins engines are not very light!
