I'm contemplating entering my single seater into the King of the Valleys. One of the biggest problems with it as it stands is going to be fuel capacity. Originally designed for trialling, range wasn't a real concern, hence the 2.5 gallon tank.
It's fairly good on fuel, I regularly do 8 sections in a trials day without refuelling and usually have a reasonable amount left. Obviously this is normally slow speed, light throttle. With the length of the course and the opportunity for getting the go pedal down, I think I'm going to need to be able to carry more fuel.
Unfortunately a bigger tank is not an option. It's very snug where is is even as small as it is. A secondary tank is however a possibility. There are a couple of places I can probably sneak another 2.5 gallon or so tank in... What I'm not sure about is how to go about using the extra fuel.
1) run dual pumps and have a changeover valve for the return pipe to swap between the two tanks.
2) Run a sealed tank and try and pipe it in such a way it will drain into the original tank.
3) Put a pump to pump from the 2nd tank to the first tank at low pressure. When I'm running out turn it on to pump some more into the primary tank.
4) Fit a couple of level switches which the 2nd tank will use to keep the first tank topped up.
If anyone has any thoughts / ideas it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Would you not need a swirl pot running at speed ?

The tank is that small and its sumped, unless you are nion out of fuel completely it doesn't really slosh about and cause a problem.

I'd say option '2'. I only carry 6 gallon, and in the unlikely event I had enough money to do faster events, I planned on using the breather of the main tank to suck from another.
If they are at the same height, it is really more of a syfon?
One thing we really noticed was the heat generated in comps. On a trial you only really begin to fill the metal and fluids with heat energy. But comps mean you have to be able to dissipate all the heat you produce. The Beast got so hot it was uncomfortable to be within 2 feet of it
