Hi all,

I'm just wondering what stoves people have for camping and what they recommend. I have the Coleman traditional single burner, a Cobb, and an Ozpig which are all great.

I'll be getting an Aquaforno soon and probably a Weber Smokey Joe, but what else do you recommend?

Yep, I'm already there! I picked one of Dave's 'kitchens' up last week to test for the mag. And I'm not just saying it 'cos he's one of our own, but he's done a great job, it's well built and sturdy and will last a lifetime!

That guy trying to sell cooking rooms meant the swear filter got updated

I've a Coleman twin burner petrol (love it) and a small primus like (chineese copy) single burner 300g jobbie which is scary as fk to use, but powerful.

This is the little one I've got.

Scary (as in potential fireball when it's lighting) but very quick to boil.

When I used to go out walking I tested most of the stoves available at that time - camping gaz, meths cookers etc, my favourite was always the Primus though, mostly avoided by others, especially the DoEers, because it was a pig to light (unless you kept it clean and maintained) but but I could cook my food on it in a third to a quarter of the time it took on all the other camping cookers. I bought 2 from a market stall holder who had polished them up as an ornament for about a fiver - they were fetching around £30-50 at the time. Looking at the above link I wish I still had them to sell now if he can get that for them Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I've got a Jetboil, they are fab, so bloody quick. I've then got a Kelly Kettle for boiling water , I boil up a few litres for brews, flasks then washing up. A normal cheapo gas two ring, finally a washing machine drum for bbq

I have one of these - a braai:

It comes with a grill and cover and the legs fold up so it slips into the back of the 90.

I then use the tripod and dutch oven to cook the remainder of the food as a pot on or as slow cooker over the braai:

Oop - got a Kelly Kettle as well. Also keep a camping gaz double ring if there are a few of us camping together.

Something about sitting around in the firelight and toasting marshmallows over the braai though Cool

We generally just use a hole in the ground with some coals taken from the fire in there. Then we fashion up a few rests (sticks, cable ties, duct tape etc), spear a leg of lamb on the spit and we're away! Follow that up with a regular dousing from a squeezy bottle of home made marinade and then slice away! We also have a grill for chicken, burgers etc.

In the morning the fire will still be going so we whack a frying pan on it and its fry up time!

Cookers - pah!
