Hi all, can some one confirm/correct me on if a pug 1.9 td will bolt straight up with no conversion plate to a ldv box ( this I am 90 % sure after doing a search) and if I have been told correctly the ldv box is a r380, same bos as used with the 300 tdi- this bit I am unsure about.

Many thanks

Pug 1.9td bolts upto the same box used in the N/A 1.9D ldv convoy, I believe it's the ldv400.. don't quote me though. Very long box not much room to play with.

The gearbox you require comes from an LDV Pilot which is the smaller van using the 1.9n/a engine. The gearbox from the convoy will not fit trust me ive done the conversion Wink . Yes the pilot gearbox is a variant of the r380 gearbox used by landrover but without a transfer box its in rwd configuration with a single output shaft which you connect to the input shaft of the sj transfer box using a custom prop

Thanks gaz

So if it's a variant of the r380 , can I use a lr r380 with the pug engine , reason I ask is I want to use land rover axles and to keep simplify things was hoping to use the t box to,

Sorry if it's a dump question but I am just trying to make it clear in my head lol

Thanks

i swapped the 1.9 N/A pug engine in my truck for a 1.9TD . using the ldv 400 series gearbox ( Also found in the sherpa's ) on both engines with no problem . the only problem i had was on the turbo lump the exhaust elbow from the turbo points directly at the steering collum to the steering box !
Ive not yet worked out what to do as not spent time on it but was really the only major problem .

i also used the vac pump off the cam for the servo on the TD lump and ditched the Vac pump i was going to move from the N/A engine to the TD so saves space and having to carry another spare belt .
i used the PAS pump from a 306 on the TD engine with a vitara PAS box and the engine only just JUST fitted between the chassis rails on the SJ as the pump pulley sticks out abit with pulley .

IF you use the PAS pump from a LDV it replaces the where the vac pump would go on the block and is the oposite side to where it is on a 306 . So with a 306 pump on its passenger side looking at the truck and a LDV one would be drivers side by the steering box . Only down to the whole inline and transverse mounting of the engines between the pug cars and LDV's so when u get a LDV lump and box from a van u will need to get a PAS pump but can dump the vac pump etc etc i believe from my experisnce .

i used the complete engine mounts from a LDV to mount the engine to the chassis rails - rubbers the lot , the mounts fit the TD engines and the N/A engines .

Thanks for the info, that should help a lot but do you know if a land rover r380 box will bolt up on the engine, as it might be a expensive mistake to make! Quoted from above it's been said it a variant but not exactly the same,

Many thanks

No the landy box is different, ive heard of people building the 2.0d prima pilot box and landy box mixed together but its not easy think you have to use mainshaft out of one box and layshaft out of other but dont hold me to that

i did look into this but for the life of me cant think why it wouldnt work ,i will dig out at the unit and report back . was something like the oil return pipe on the turbo ends up pointing at the block and with the pipe off is almost faces directly into block so cant even make / make fit a new pipe .

sadly the landy box is differnt , splines or soemthing are out and a differnt shapped bell housing i believe but not 100% sure of all reasons why .
