hi guys got a jeep cherokee xj 2.5 petrol, and my rear springs are way past best, spoke to dave from llama 4x4,( top bloke,) about raising it 3", since i have to change the springs anyway? but heres my thoughts, if i do lift it 3" and put on 31" tyres how much more actual lift will i achieve at the diff? in comparison to just putting new standard springs on with the tallest tyres i can fit on standard? ( dont know what size that is yet) is the effort and cost really worth it?
also dave mentioned heavy duty rear springs from another company that would give the lift and he then supplys the rest needed, but said they were very stiff, any one using the 5 leaf heavy dutys?
or buy standard springs and get the full kit from llama which would ad a leaf to them but be more comfortable, apparently,
theres a few hundred quid differance between them which in my world means about 2 weeks if i get the heavy duty springs and remainder from llama, or 2 months if i get standard springs and add a leaf from llama, or tomorrow if i just get standard springs and dont lift it.
the springs need doing asap as they bending the wrong way
so whats your thoughts on all of this?

Ive just fitted a 2"lift add a leaf kit to my XJ .......found it did what it said on the tin .My springs were ok though . Pointless fitting a lift kit if not fitting larger wheels/tyres as the ground to diff casing clearance remains the same ,now looking for wheels n tyres the size of which are yet to be determined ??? any ideas anyone
Found the kit did stiffen the ride but not to a teeth rattling state
fitting the kit took about 90 mins front and rear

the only thing that picks your diff up is larger tyres - the reason for a lift is so that you can fit larger tyres and keep some flex

You can stick a 200" lift on
Run 29 inch tyres and you'll get stuck in the same ruts.

As I said I would put on 31" tyres if I lifted it, but am I right in thinking that if I put on 31s they would only give a1" lift over the 29s overall due to 1 inch on the top and bottom of the tyre which would give a2" size increase but only a1" height increase? Or is it to late and I need to go to sleep?

I'm gonna spend the money on a winch instead then, if 1" is all I'm gonna get, I'll pull myself out of the mud if need be

You may not gain much hight to the dif by lifting it and putting bigger tyres on it but you will gain hight in the middle transfer case even if guarded a few inches af extra space going over stones or banks is always a good thing also do not forget a winch with an arb type bummer will pull your springs down even lower.
Another thing to think about is all of this stuff costs a shed load of money that you will not get back if you decide to sell it once the novelty has worn off I would say put a good set of AT tryes on it and go and have a play with good tyres XJs are pretty good offroad without spending money on them.

Usually that inch is al thats needed so very very worth it as yes dose diff but also improves departure and approach angles.
The winch will weigh down the front so lessening lift and usually makeing approach angles worse so making you get stuck alot more.also winch battery and wiring costs a lot more than a add a leaf or the mansfield 2inch springs with some spacers under the front coils.
