So for those with chainsaws; did you do any training before using one or just got on with it? Used to carry a few saws/axes when out laning with my other recovery gear but I've not done it on my own for so long I've got out of practice of what I need to carry, and soon I'll be back in 4x4 mode again...

Yes Don, I am very much alive. Got me Class 1 now and thanks to that and a decent 4 on 4 off job will soon have the money to get a Disco
I was in Stirling last weekend when I saw some of the Scottish Off Road Group prepping... I was disappointing in a way that I couldn't join them but I'd just recently had a play in the snow and found the difflock wasn't working and besides, I was tired and needed rest.

I did my training before it was necessary to do training and get a piece of paper

Wilco
Although, I didn't really leave, I just loitered elsewhere for a while. But I'm always popping in now and again
Might even make it to Drumclog sometime. If you don't see me, and you see Pete with a caravan; that'll be my caravan So I'll be there in spirit...

Treat chainsaws with respect. Google kickback and learn where not to chop with.
As for training, you only need this if it's for hire / reward / insurance... A tree like that on a lane, about two minutes with a saw and it would be rollable.
About two minutes with an axe or hatchet would also do the same thing and less likely to remove your arm in the process.

Thanks DXMedia. I haven't handled chainsaws in the past and have always been wary of them and always wood. However, we came across something recently with laning and I thought I'd query it.
I would think that these days if I'm going to get/carry one I'd do the training first. Local companies charge about £150-200 for the course, not got a problem with that.
