Hello all 4x4 enthusiasts. I'm looking for some advise please. I'm planning to buy a 4x4 later this year, never had one before but want something to get me to and around farms where I'l be shooting. Due to they're good value and good things I've read, it could well be a jimny or grand vitara from 2001 sort of era. Deciding which one though is the hard bit, apparently it depends on the users application. So here's mine:
It'l be a third vehicle, hence, wanting something cheap to buy and insure, got a van and car already. This will spend approx 60% of time off road, 40% getting there or less. Not for competitive stuff (yet anyway), just getting around cornish farms. So were looking at wet fields, muddy and often sloping gradients, accessed through gateways where you could loose your welly-boot if your not careful. land where you usually only see defenders or tractors.
The GV is appealing as its more spacious, more masculine engines and better road performance etc. but will it take this terrain in its stride or would the jimny be more suitable, obviously both would need appropriate tyres. Question [/img][/img]

I have driven both on road and off road.
The Jimny is impressive and possibly has the edge off road, but is very bouncy on road.
The Vitara has the edge on the road, but is more than capable off road.
The Vitara rusts and the Jimny doesn't appear to from what I have seen.

Personally, I prefer the Vitara due to it being wider and having more elbow room.

if i were to pick one it would be the jimny if its only going to be a 3rd car not having to do any towing or lug the family arround.
and the jimny does rust just the same as the vits lol

Thanks for the advise, although over the weekend a reasonably priced defender was brought to my attention. I bought it, only reason I ruled them out from the start is because thought they'd be too expensive ( which most are). Thanks again.
