Just a couple of pics from a local front diff mount - the owner is installing a 1600 cc Toyota 4A-GE (86kw / 181 Nm) engine to his Niva:

Not sure a 4AGE would be my first choice for a Niva swap tbh. In my experience they lack low down torque, especially the one in my MR2 (which to be fair may not have had the TVIS working properly). If I was going to that effort and expense I personally fit a less stressed 2 litre for the extra torque if it was to be used off-road.
I'd also personally avoid Toyota 4AGEs because their supposed reliability is somewhat overstated - they're as delicate as egg shells in my experience (which to be fair I've probably been a bit unlucky with them), they're not anywhere near as robust as Honda's ZC.
That said, as above lovely fab work I'd be happy to own it for that alone And they can be easily supercharged...

I hope to post a few more pics in the near future.
I see the Niva quite often, and a free flow exhaust branch -system has been installed during the previous week.

the diff mount looks a bit complicated to me (lots of bolts to check for tightness)- any idea why he chose not to mount to the cross member? I like that bell housing a lot though.
and the engine

The diff mount indeed looks a bit complicated, and I still need to figure out how it works.
I do find this mod quite interesting though - at least the owner is keen to try something new. Who knows - it might not be all that complicated, and might work very well.
Also, I see the owner quite often, and should be able to report back about engine performance in general.
By the way, (and for what it's worth) the owner has an open mind - and is always "in quest for more reliability"...
I hope to report back in future.

I have seen a comment somewhere on the net which implicates that the steel brackets which mount the aluminium diffs to the cross member tend to wiggle loose at the diff flanges - and I assume the owner probably know about that comment as well.
Anyway, at this mod the diff also gets held in place by brackets which get bolted to the front (main) suspension crossmember . So in this case there is no need to mount any brackets to the stabiliser bar at the rear - like at the other known mods.
Unfortunately I did not take any proper pics of the last mentioned brackets. One of those brackets can be seen at the third pic from the top though. Just have a close look at the flat steel bar, between the yellow bush and the CV Joint.
I hope to forward some proper pics in the near future.
